The estimates are in and Chicken Little wasn't so little afterall. According to studio estimates, Chicken Little earned 40.8 million over its opening weekend. While falling short of the 70+ opening weekends of past Pixar films, it is a VERY solid opening for Disney and will likely indicate to the industry that Disney animation may be heading back on track. While estimates can shift either up or down when the actuals come in, Chicken Little will no doubt stand at least as Disney's second biggest opening weekend for a Disney animated film (non-Pixar) behind only the Lion King. If actuals show the film really earned 41.5+ over the weekend, it could become Disney's top opening weekend for a Disney animated film ever.

Edit: If you like, you can continue this discussion in this thread: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=64641&page=5 I don't know why I made a new one :hammer: Just happy for Disney I guess :)

Well for a $150 million dollar movie, it better have an opening like that. Plus, Chicken Little has absolutly no competition which is a great help.

Boxofficemojo, a pretty reliable box office tracking site, lists that Chicken Little cost $60 million to produce, not 150 million. However, that does not include marketing costs and most likely does not include the costs the studio incurred to switch from traditional animation to CG. However, Chicken little alone is not responsible for making up that cost. Compare that to Pixar's last film, The Incredibles, which cost $92 million to produce.

What's a realistic number for Chicken Little at this point? Could it crack 120 Million. Brother Bear was at 85 and Home on the Range peaked in the 50s. Its going to have the kids demographic again this weekend but Harry Potter opens the week after. It would be great if Chicken Little could finish in the Top 20 grossing films for the year. I don't think it sniffs at Madagascar's 193M number and despite winning last weekend, I'm not convinced it can get to Robots 128M. If it tops Robots I think Disney should feel very pleased.
