Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama

I find it kind of surprising that the Unofficial Guide makes no mention of Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama. I haven't been to DAK yet, but I gather Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama is mainly just the theming for the "midway" type rides in Dinoland USa. But apparently it also features some midway games, etc. I stumbled across this page that includes a whole backstory to Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama, as well as a bunch of photos:

http://falcioni.wordpress.com/2012/...thing-happened-on-the-way-to-the-gas-station/

I gather it's not the most popular part of DAK, but it seems like a bit of an oversite, or a major glossing over, for the Unofficial Guide to totally omit reference to it. I'd kind of like to know what midway games there are, the prices, etc. I've found some of this info online, but it would have been handy to have it in the guide. (Lately it may seem like I'm being critical of the Unofficial Guide, but actually it's just because I'm spending SO much time reading it - specifically right now the 2014 edition - that certain omissions or details stand out to me. It's a great book!)

It seems strange that they wouldn't mention the area, it isn't a major attraction but still it hold interest to some people (maybe). I'm not a huge unofficial fan, I like the Passporter guide book .

I'll check out that one - I love guide books! I like the UG because there's just so much in it. great browsing.

We never do the midway games. (Really, what's the point? We have them at our local carnival for less.) I do, however, enjoy the theming of the area -- at least, I started to enjoy it once I figured out that it WAS an intentional theme, and that Disney didn't just lose the plot and cheap out on a more "realistic" dinosaur land. ;)

I dont care for the dinosaur land part. I like the rides , but I hate walking through it it has that carnival feel to it.i also cant stanf when they talk you at the games trying to get you to play. Its just uncomfortable to me and I try to avoid that area at all cost.

My family loves the midway games at C&H and we have some very fond memories that were made there. My youngest won her first carnival game there about 7 years ago and we still talk about her scream when she won to this day.

Was it the best or most creative option that Disney could have added? Not by a long shot, but it is fun and the backstory makes it fit just fine. If anything, Disney could make the backstory a little more obvious as you would never really get it by just going there.

Weird that a guide would leave out two of DAK's relatively small amount of rides.

The rides are included, just no mention of the Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama theming or the midway games. And very little mention of the Dino Institute or whatever it's called. Not really a big deal, but it was funny in another thread here or possibly on another forum, when someone was sort of upset about how run-down it looked with the cracked road, etc., and someone had to explain it was part of the theming of the area.

I would hate to see what that person thought of Africa or Asia at AK.

The midway games are really overpriced and most of the times I've been there only a few of them are operational and the others are just vacant and taking up space. Triceratop Spin is alright, though I prefer all three of the spinning rides at MK, but Primeval Whirl is one of my favorite rides in all of WDW. Even though it's just a silly little coaster, my friends and I love it. :)

Which ones are not working? I have been in Dinorama half a dozen times this year and have yet to see a single one not working. Come to think of it, I can not remember a single time we have been there when they were not all working.

The most recent time I was there was the first week of March and the water squirt game (I just looked up the name of it on google and it said "fossil fueler") and the basketball game (the "bronto-score") had no one working. We did that area as soon as the park opened though so perhaps they just don't open all the games first thing in the morning?

THat might be it. We hit the area pretty much every time we are in AK, but never until about noon or later.

Ah, and I tend to do it immediately after dinosaur, first thing. So, that's probably it. And I guess it would make sense for them to not have everything open first thing, since most people tend to not do that area until later.
