We have never eaten at Chef's De France, so I'm unsure of it's set up. Is it possible to see Illuminations from there?

It's possible, but you have to get a window seat to be able to see Illuminations. The rest of the seating is on the inside of the restaurant, so you wouldn't be able to see it.

You can't really see much of illuminations from the window either -- the crowds in the walkway pretty much fill in the entire area. Now upstairs in Bistro de Paris, it's a different story. Of course, it is also 6 times as expensive.

The Bistro was our original choice. Unfortunately, like Shula's, it's a little upscale for kids. The site stated No children's menu. Which, I guess, could just mean they order from the regular menu. I doubt they would kick us out if we came in with kids. I have taken my kids to fine restaurants before such as Emeril's and a Shula's that's a little closer to home, but it is a vacation and it would probably be nicer if I didn't have to spend the entire dinner worrying that they might bother someone at the table next to us. Not that they would, but I'm not one of those mom's who let their kids loose. I worry about them bothering people much more than I should I guess.

The food at Chef de France is wonderful, it is one of my favorite places. I also think that in addition to the people blocking your view, there are quite a few trees in the area which would make it difficult to see.

HagansMommie...I think the children aspect at the upscale restauarants is only something you can judge. My sister in law would not hesitate to take her three year old to any upscale restaurant, but he is an only child, very quiet, very mild-tempered, and so far has never presented a problem at places like that. I think it completely depends on your children. I noticed you mentioned the same thing in two posts so just wanted to pipe in and say that nothing at WDW is child-free, and I don't think any of them (except for Victoria & Alberts) go out of their way to discourage children. It IS true that most of the upscale restaurants will not offer a childrens menu, although you can be very creative ala carte. I just admire your willingness to take the other adults into account into your planning, and as someone without children, I appreciate that kind of thoughtfulness -- but ultimately it is your vacation and pick the places that you and your husband want to go to. You can always find things for your kids.

Some other options to consider of places that are a bit more upscale but will gladly welcome your kids: Fulton's Crab House and Wolfgang Puck's in DD; Jiko at AKL
