Chef Mickeys

I haven't been to WDW since 1994, but my favorite dining memory was Chef Mickey's.

Now I see that Chef Mickeys has moved and become a buffet-only restaruant. When did this happen? and why the format change and relocation?

How does the new incarnation compare to the original? Do they still serve up those yummy Mickey-shaped waffles?

Can't explain the why's of the decision, but it is our favorite character breakfast because the food is good and lots of characters, Minnie, Mickey,
Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale, so some great pictures...
Yes, the Mickey waffles are still there on the buffet!

Well if they still have the waffles I will have to go there!

From what I read though, it's on the fourth floor of a hotel? How is that, atmosphere-wise?

One of my favorite aspects of the original set-up was it's locale -- a really nice view, and the big mickey in front!

Recent Chef Mickey's trip

Hiya Captain!

We never went to Chef Mickey's before it moved (it was in the Disney Marketplace, right?), and we've never been for breakfast. The family has been for dinner several times in its current location, all since 1994, of course.

It's in the Contemporary Resort. Setting wise, it's rather neat. You can drive, take the bus, take a watercraft, walk from the Magic Kingdom, or ride the monorail to get there.

Since you mentioned the view, the last time I was there was with a group of 13 youth and adult leaders. We were seated at a huge round table in one of the rooms off of the main dining room. It was a smaller room along the outside wall, with windows which face Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom. We were able to watch the sun set behind the castle. Pretty neat, actually. Every other time we've been there we didn't notice any windows.

It is a character dinner, so you do get 'table time' with each character that's there.

It's also a buffet. This last trip, in August, the food seemed a little off, but it was still good.

Lots of neat desserts!

Beware--the glowing drinks (LED 'ice cubes' in flavored Sprite) will cost extra. They are neat toys depending on your age (er..I mean the age of your kids, of course. LOL)

In August there was some rehab going on in the Grand Canyon Concourse. Although the construction walls were up, I still enjoyed just being there, watching the monorail whisk by, and marvelling at the mural. It still has a sense of what Walt's vision of the future may have been.

If you're lucky, and the timing is right, you might can enjoy the Magic Kingdom's fireworks from the observation deck on the 15th floor.

I remember the old Chef Mickey's too!

We always have our character breakfast at Chef Mickey's and its great fun! The food is still yummy, the waffles are there and the Sticky Mickeys (mickey shaped sticky cinnamon rolls) are to die for!
We haven't had dinner there yet, but I know quite a few people who say it a must do...just watch out that you don't get mooned as the monorail goes by.

If you're lucky, and the timing is right, you might can enjoy the Magic Kingdom's fireworks from the observation deck on the 15th floor.

You will actually not be able to do this unless you are a guest of the California Grill, but you can step out onto the 4th floor observation deck and enjoy from there. :wave:

I love Chef Mickey's. I've only been there at breakfast, but it's a don't miss for me.

We were at Chef Mickey's last May and it is wonderful. It was our grandson's favorite place. All the characters are there and they go from table to table getting pictures made and signing autographs. We were there for dinner and the potatoe soup is incredible. The buffet was excellent.
We are going back for Thanksgiving and this will be one of our stops for sure.
