My mom was looking through old vacation photos, and found a bunch from when my grandparents went to WDW in 1971, just a few days after it officialy opened. She sent me a few great photos, but this postcard really grabbed my attention. How funny to see how the MK resort area was proposed to look back then (especially the original concept for the high-rise Polynesian), and how things have changed!

Here is another great shot - check out the HM without its canopy!

Ah the days of the high rise Poly, the Asian, The Venetian, The Persian, and the luxury of staying at Tempo Bay......damn the Seven Seas Lagoon was sexy on 1970s concept boards. :lookaroun

To go along with the other 2 photos, here's the merchandise bag that was used back then (I really wish they would bring this image back):

Love the old WDW logo. We saw it in One Man's Dream this weekend and wished they would bring it back.

I also was listening to old Monorail spiels last night and they talk about a "Asian inspired" hotel to be built. Anyone know what this was supposed to be? Is this what the red and white building is on the left in the first photo?

Awesome shots! I went back in the 70's when I was younger but to date I've not seen any photos except from Tom Sawyer's Island.

Thanks for sharing!

I never got to go to WDW when i was young. I am always amazed at the pictures of the early years of the park because of how small the trees are, and how much more lush the parks look after decades of new plantings and the growth of the original plantings. It also seems that palm trees play a lesser role in the landcapes now it seems.
