We always use Hertz because they don't require insurance and have great rates. Also, if you're a AAA member make sure to check rates through their website, saves a nice chunk of change.

If you have a costco card, go to costcotravel.com and use the lowest price calculator. It will compare all the availble rates and coupons for several companies and let you know who has the cheapest all in rate. Save us over $100 for our July trip.

You should not have to pay insurance with any car rental company. However you should have your own car insurance and make sure that it covers you on rental cars. Some rental companies used to require insurance verification , but I have not seen that for many years.

There are many good deals out there depending on the time of year. I have found that Alamo has been very good over the years and they are located right in MCO and are also @ the Car Care Center and at the Swan/Dolphin resort which makes it easy for a rental for just part of you vacation if needed.

The big key is when you make your reservation, keep going back to the rental car website and monitor the rates. They change all the time and you most likely can get a better rate before your trip. Quite often some of the best rates become available 2 - 3 weeks before your trip based on availability. This is mostly the case during slow times of the year and not during busy holiday seasons.

Best advice is watch the rates.

I can say that Enterprise does require proof, at least around here they do. I went to rent a car for 1 day when our Blazer went down and we didn't have our new car yet. They called my insurance company and tried to charge me for insurance because my coverage wasn't full coverage. So for a one day rental of a compact car they wanted to put a $300ish hold on my card. Needless to say I told them what I thought of it and had them drive me back home.

To the OP, yes, Hertz is great. Next weekend we are renting a standard size car for my daughters cheer competition in Atlanta. From 8am Friday until 8am Monday we're paying $68. That's unlimited mileage and all. Not too bad.

/edit Scratch that. I just rechecked the rates through AAA and now I'm only paying $40 for that weekend with a free weekend day code. Very nice!

That is strange that enterprise required proof of insurance. I travel quite a bit and have not been asked in years. I used to always carry a letter from my insurance company for many years and I have not been asked for it in a long time. It has to be the age issue.

Hertz is not on site at the MCO terminal. You will have to be bussed to there location which is close. Budget, Alamo, National and I think Avis are literally down one floor from baggage claim area and a walk accross the street to pick out your car.

Historically I have not found a rate for Hertz to be any cheaper in Orlando even using AAA, Sams Club discount, BJ's Warehouse discount or my corporate discount. There may be other discounts out there to get better rates with hertz, but Alamo has always worked the best. One time we almost went with Enterprise, but ALamo rates came down and locked into them instead.

When I rented through Hertz, I had to purchase the additional insurance because I only have liability for my regular car insurance. My car is 12 years old and worth pretty much nothing so I dont need full coverage. We booked through hotwire and added on the insurance there because it was $75 for the week and 9 times out of 10 it's an arm and a leg when you do it at the counter when you pick up the car. So if you don't have full coverage or not sure if your insurance will cover you on a rental car, definitely call and check before you book. That way if you do book through a wholesaler (hotwire, priceline, etc) you can add on their insurance at quite a discount as opposed to at the counter.

We have to rent a car for the first time for the first week of August. I signed up for email notices form Hotwire.com. They do seem to have good rates.

I guess we're just lucky about the insurance thing. We also rent from our local Hertz spot, not the airport location or in Florida, so maybe that helps. They offer insurance but don't require it. I'm not sure about the age thing affecting my insurance requirement with Enterprise, because I'm 34. Who knows though. Hertz will always have my business because not only do we get a hassle free, low rate rental, but the guy that runs our local spot usually upgrades us for free. :king:

Really? I always check the Costco site for coupons and I price them out myself to see which is the best deal. I didn't know there was a Lowest Price Calculator? Where is it on the web site once you are on the page with all the different companies' coupon codes? That would be a huge time saver.

In any case, Alamo has always worked out cheapest for us because they take two coupon codes and I can combine the best Costco code with my AAA code or with an Entertainment Card code.

Believe it or not, Hertz is now onsite at the MCO terminal, right next to National on the lower level, if I'm not mistaken. The whole car rental area underwent some construction in order to make room for them.

Noticed the construction during my May trip last year, and when I went back in October, there was Hertz!
