Character pool?

Hi everyone! I'm planning on audition for a character role for fall 08. I've been reading other posts and learned about this character pool. I'm a little confused on what to do if I audition and get put into the pool. I'm 5'3"-5'4" and have been a dancer and performer my whole life, so I thought my chances were good until i heard about the pool, and the need... or lack there of for certain height ranges. So I was just wondering on your advice if I were to get in the pool. Should I schedule fall 08 classes at my school? Or should I wait around to hear if I'll get a role? It just seems difficult to plan, or not plan, a move to Florida when you don't know if or when you're going to find out if you get a role. Thanks in advance!

Are you thinking about auditioning for CP, or just part time? If you get put into the pool there are two options. Wait in the pool until they call you, or go into another role on property and wait till they call you. Where do you currently go to school? If I were you I would consider doing the CP, and taking a semsester or two off college. Good luck!

I spent 3 months in the pool before I got picked. Pool doesn't mean no. Pool means wait and see.

I go to school in Pittsburgh, which is the main reason it's kind of a hassle to wait around. I'd be doing the CP not part time. I'm just nervous if it were to happen, whether or not I should wait around to get picked, or choose another role, or not go?

edit: So is it likely that one in the pool gets picked for a role while they have already chosen their back up role in the CP? Like if I were to be a character attendant and a role opened up for me am I able to switch to entertainment mid-CP?

I'm also assuming that I'd have a better chance staying out of the pool if I were staying for the fall advantage rather than just fall. You know, the longer someone is staying the more worth it to train them? Is this true? I would love to do the advantage but I'm studying abroad earlier in the summer and the two are overlapping.

Honestly if you audition for entertainment for the college program, you won't be put in the pool. It will either be a YES or a NO. They don't put cp's in the pool. Also if you end up starting in another role, you are NOT allowed to switch into Entertainment in the middle of your CP. You will be asked to extend your CP and then start in Entertainment at the beginning of your new CP. That's what happened to me. I started out at Test Track, then auditioned for entertainment (was offered a role), but asked to extend in order to do that role. I hope that helped.

Character Pool Questions

Hi! I too got put into the Character Pool last month as Cinderella's Prince Charming. I put on the application that I was looking for part time, full time, and seasonal.... but I should have only put seasonal. Whoops! :)
My question is similar to the above, I'm wondering if I should try to take another job in the parks in the mean time? I'm not in the CP, but just went to an audition and since I couldn't start right away, they put me in the Character Pool. Do you think I have a good chance of getting the job?
I'm also moving from college at the University of Michigan down to Florida for the summer. I'm going to call back tomorrow to try to fix some stuff on my application while I'm in the pool.... but what do you all think? Are my chances good? And should I try to get another job in the mean time? Thanks for the help!!!

To be honest - there is not a high need for Seasonal Performers outside of the under 5' category. If you change your availability to seasonal, you are not likely to be selected. Disney gets seasonal Performers following CP Programs and anytime a FT/PT CM wants to drop their employment.

In fact, in an effort to ween some of the unnecessary Seasonal Labor, Disney just created a new rule that all Seasonal Cast Members need to work a minimum of 150 hours per year.

Now, if they thought you had the potential for other Princes, specifically those that are out more than Charming, or you demonstrated that you are a strong mover, you may have a better shot.

Good Luck!
