Character Dining? Should I or shouldn't I?

I am considering a character breakfast. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it to do Cindrella's castle breakfast (as for all 5 of us it will be about $200)?

Only you can answer the worth of it to you. If meeting Cindy in the castle is a priority and will make or break your trip, then you just go for it and spend the money. Otherwise see if you can just do a Cindy M&G without the food in the castle.

In our case, I just let my Daughter and Wife have the experience in the castle to themselves and I just kept my son with me going on attractions. It cut the cost in half for us.

If your meal doesn't "need" to be in the castle (or actually in Magic Kingdom), there are a couple of other breakfasts that are less expensive, with sort of similar characters. For example the breakfast at Akershus in Norway/World Showcase/Epcot. Or maybe breakfast or dinner at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian.
If any of these menus appeal to your family.

Akershus breakfast:
"Characters will appear on a rotating schedule; that is, there is no guarantee which characters will be appearing on any given day.
"Princesses" who MAY appear include: Belle, Jasmine, Snow White, Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Mulan, and Mary Poppins"

Akershus lunch:
""Princess Storybook Dining" character meal. Characters will appear on a rotating schedule, that is, there is no guarantee which characters will be appearing on any given day.
Disney Princesses, Leading Ladies and Friends who may appear include: Ariel (in ballgown), Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Mulan, or Mary Poppins."

1900 Park Fare breakfast:
" Character Meal with Mary Poppins, Alice and the Mad Hatter characters subject to change).
Served 8 - 11:40 a.m. (subject to change)"

1900 Park Fare dinner:
" Character Meal featuring Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella. (Some characters may only appear in the lobby for photos.)"

Also, just thought, if MK location is important to you...I think they are going to add a breakfast at Be Our Guest, but I'm not sure when it will begin, or if any characters might be there.

Thanks. Our girls are 5, 6 and 8. I thought it might save time to meet 4 princesses in an hour breakfast, rather than wait in line for meet and greets? Reviews seems to say that the characters are great at the cindrellas castle meal... Considering we only get 3 days at the parks, I thought it would be a time saver

Cindy's is THE most popular (hardest to get a table) character breakfast - I believe its also the dearest. I've never eaten here.
Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare are our favourites

It's all a matter of opinion. We've done all 3 meals at CRT and all 3 meals at Akershus...and if you're looking at this more for experience and less about food...there is no contest. CRT wins. It's all about being in the castle and while Akershus is castle-esque...it is not 'THE' castle. The princess experiences at both are comparable.

That being said...feelings on food varies. Some is because character meals are notoriously inconsistent. We prefer CRT for breakfast...especially pre-park opening, and like the food at Akershus lunch and dinner better.

Regardless of which one you choose...I've found it does a great job of entertaining the kids and gives them their fill of princess m&g's for the day. And if you pick the earliest pre-park opening slot at either one, they usually have you out in time for park opening- so no park time wasted either.

One last thing...I've found that CRT is no longer super difficult to get. That's not to say it doesn't book up, but between the price and the pay in full at booking requirement...it makes a lot of people think twice before booking. I think it was also in 2010 when all 3 meals became princess experiences...so that also made it easier as well.

Time is money so the time you save not having to wait in line might be worth it. For us it was.

So I booked the Cinderella's Castle for breakfast. It was pricey, but I think worth it! I appreciate everyone's comments, it helped me make my decision. Specifically, when HouCuseChickie said "if you're looking at this more for experience and less about food...there is no contest. CRT wins." We are looking for experience , so that helped a ton!

The meals other than breakfast have gotten significantly better in the past few years. They've shifted to a seasonal availability menu which insures you get the freshest ingredients. Breakfast has slipped during that same time... you now get pastries (bitter chocolate and semi sweet) and a weird entree selections along with your rotation of characters (the face characters here always have been superb). IMHO breakfast hasnt reached the 55 dollar a head value in quite a while, Lunch and dinner has remained consistently good.

Quite right. I recall the Disney Food Blog being complimentary about the dinner offerings. Not the best, mind you, but certainly a marked improvement than what had been available before, in their opinion.

With 3 princesses of your own at those ages...ABSOLUTELY do it and have the camera ready! Get an early ressie and get empty Main Street and Castle pics!

The stuffed-caramel-cinnamon-cream cheese-heaven-on-earth-French toast is worth the price by itself! :hungry:

We booked several character meals on our last trip and loved them all. Food was good, especially Tusker House and Supercalifragilistic breakfasts but the characters were the real draw. We did Ohana to meet Lilo and Stitch as they're my youngest's favourite. Seeing his face as Stitch got nearer was totally worth it. Can take a while for them all to get round but just means more time for food!
