Changing the Format of MP3's

I have a computer question and I was hoping that somebody familar with this topic could answer it...

I've been having trouble burning some MP3s on to cd. I kept on getting an error message (i.e. We have experienced a problem and need to shut down, blah, blah, blah). Anyhow, I contacted my burning program's manufacturer and they told me that my MP3's are not in the right format and need to be changed so that they are in the correct format. They told me that winamp could do this. I have winamp, but I only just downloaded it. Does anybody know how to use winamp to change the format of MP3s?

Sorry to bother anyone....

Any help would be appreciated :)

Um, what type (bit rate, etc) do you have now, and what do you need to convert it to? Otherwise, I have no idea how to help you.

BTW, iTunes is much easier when it comes to converting MP3s....

I need a bit rate of 128 at 44.1khz...

I'm a PC user that has never touched Macs his entire life (so i'm totally unfamilar with i-tunes).:)

As for the burning program I use, it is NTI DVD Maker gold. I know it is not a great program, but it came bundled with my computer. I'm thinking about just buying a new program. Maybe, I'll look at Nero.

Thanks for your responses.

I would suggest using Nero, as I have burned hundreds of CD's and DVD's from all sorts of formats with no problems. The only problem is that Nero is quite expensive. Another option would be to go to download.com, you will find plenty of programs there that will convert or burn your files.

I hope this helps, if not, post another message and we can try again.

Good Luck

Steve

Thanks so much for your help.

You're right about the price of Nero. It is expensive!

I'll look for the download I need...hopefully that will solve my problems.

Download iTunes, install, run.

Go to File, Preferences, then Import.

Go to MP3, then custom settings (the drop down menu to select custom settings is the one that says 160, 128, etc,)

Select the right bit rate and wavelenght.

Click ok.

Go to Advanced and then select 'Convert to MP3'. Select file, and voala, converted to right type. Keep doing this step untill all are done.

When you want to burn the CD to an MP3 cd, go to File, Preferences, Burning. Select MP3 CD and then hit OK. Insert CD and then click the circle above the burn icon. It opens and burns the CD.
