CEO Bob Iger Making Plans for his Future?

Instead of buying a boat for retirement, he wants to buy part of a football team. I never knew Iger's role model was Jerry Jones. (And based on his Disney tenure, I predict he will do just as well.)

LA couldn't support one team, so let's try two and see what happens???

I think this was tried once before...

What a complete joke. What is really funny is how the NFL is going to just insult the numerous other markets which could easily support a team, all in an effort to get the big Hollywood dollars...

I wonder how suite ownership works in these situations? 50% of the home games are ones for a team which as the owner of a suite I could care less about.

Oh well, build the massive stadium and let the two teams flounder like they did back in the 90s...

Does not surprise me one bit Mr. Iger is heading this effort up. Hey, maybe he'll strike a deal and they can merge Disney with Uni... Think how great the UniSuperParkHopper ticket will be...

Like I said it's all about the graft, Who gets the construction contract, which insider gets to buy up all the real estate from the unsuspecting and sell it to the Stadium Consortium. Not to mention the tax payers can build a facility for Billionaires so that millionaires can play a childs game.

It's one reason the Patriots are so hated by the rest of the NFL ownership, They built their new stadium with PRIVATE money no sweetheart deal where the Billionaire gets to use taxpayer money to build themselves a facility and take home all the profit from it. Leaving the taxpayer to maintain it and pay the mortgage funded by taxes on local businesses.

My question on this stadium, which I foolishly posed in the Sports subforum early yesterday, will it take typical Disney years to construct or does Iger only move that slow for WDW projects and this could be done in 2 years?

If the temp LA stadiums don't have the 2nd most wanted feature (loads of luxury boxes to sell to the jetset - obviously the most wanted feature is for it to be funded 100% by taxpayers), then this will be built as fast as California laws will let them.

The reason teams left LA in the past were Stadium issues, it wasn't from lack of support. Southern California is one of the few places that doesn't fall for the publically funded stadium scam. Owners wanted the public to pay for new stadiums and the politicians refused. That's why the teams left. Both projects currently under consideration would be privately funded with the only public funds possibly being included would be infrastructure. For example the Rams left So Cal for a publically funded stadium in St. Louis. That stadium is far from being paid off and is already very dated.

So the difference between LA and other sports towns is that people don't allow billionaires to hold a city hostage seeking public funds or threaten to leave. The So Cal public doesn't want public funds going to sports venues period.

LA is a very underrated sports town actually, but that's another discussion.

The Rams owner is trying to bring them back in a separate deal. Either way I doubt all 3 teams move to Los Angeles.

There was hope that with the sale of the Dodgers after the disastrous tenure of the McCourts that Kroenke would make a deal with both MLB and NFL to undo what that ex-showgirl did to the franchise. Not sure Chávez Ravine would have been the best spot for a NFL stadium (can you imagine the parking nightmare on those Sundays in September when both teams might be playing on the same day?). Inglewood would have been a nice spot. Nothing will make us native Los Angelians happier than having the Rams back... and the Dodgers winning another Series. Would love to hear Scully call one more winning season. [and the Angels go back go their previous name] :D:D:D:D:D

One nugget from the article is Iger's retirement in 2018. This seems to cement that there won't be another 'extention' to his contract.

Though with the latest story about Shanghai Shenanigans and a missing $800 mil still unaccounted for he may be making a different set of plans much, much sooner...

Ah the McCourts the parking lot kings who spread destruction wherever they go.
