CBR or Value? Your opinion....

We currently have reservations at CBR for Sept. 30 - Oct. 8 incl.the free dining plan. I'm having second thoughts that maybe we should opt for a value resort. We usually stay offsite at a rental home and therefore have other things to do when away from the parks (pool, p.table, just lounging watching whatever on TV). Since we are staying onsite this time, I am thinking that we will not be at the hotel a lot. We will be using the pool at times, but other than that, it's going to be for sleeping, showering, and maybe a afternoon nap. I know WDW TV is VERY limited. :D

I know that CBR has larger rooms which will benefit 4 people (2adults, 1 teen, 1 preschooler) and be able to use an air mattress to help with sleeping. But, I'm thinking it is $400+ dollars more and I'm having second thoughts about CBR being the right choice.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Have you stayed at CBR and a value? I know the rooms are going to be close quarters regardless. I'm just not sure that it's worth the $400+ more for the trip.

Thanks for the input.

I've stayed at CBR and at ASMu. The square footage difference doesn't sound like much, but it FELT like a HUGE difference. I'd probably stay at the Pop, but my DH will NOT stay at a value for several reasons:
  1. Room size (stated above)
  2. Crowds: CBR & POR were MUCH less crowded and much more quiet than ASMu.
  3. Food: While the food court at the values are just as good as the mods, the mods have a sit-down restaurant.
  4. Theming: While I love the novelty of the values, we prefer the more grown-up feeling of the mods and above. Of course, our daughter is 17, now. When she was 8, she LOVED the values for the child-like theming. That is why we stayed there.
  5. Bus Service: We found the bus service better at the mods. We liked having several bus stops around the resort rather than just one at the front (which was FAR away from our room)
I hope this helps you make a decision!

We've never stayed at a Value Resort, but we've stayed at CBR and really liked it.

It is not too too expensive, and we love the theming! (We live in Wisconsin:lol: )

The service there has also been very good to us.

Again, I can't say anything about a Value Resort, but we love CBR!!:)

I didn't have a problem when we stayed at ASMo (although we were actually near to the ASMU bus stop and quite a distance from the food court) but I did hear people in the bus queues saying that the buses were more frequent to CBR and POR....

We much prefer CBR to the values. We've stayed at Pop Century, and it was OK, but the moderates are so much better IMO. It's nice to have the 2 sinks and fridge too, which you don't get in a value resort, and the pools are deeper with water slides and hot tubs at the mods. I think you'll be happier at CBR. besides they play Jimmy Buffet music there!:sohappy:

I have never stayed at a Value resort but love the CBR. I have stayed there 3 times and planning on staying there again in 2007. One really unique part of CBR is that there is a tropical area with birds and animals walking about freely. There is also a playground too!!!! If you are staying in preferred section meaning Martinque or Trinidad North that puts you even closer to Old Port Royale the hub of the CBR. I would not change if I were you. Have fun!!!!

Busses won't be a problem because we will more than likely be driving down. I already have planned that half of us will have to shower the night before(unless it's really late) and the other half in the morning.

That actually poses another question, is there a never ending supply of hot water? Just in case it's a 4 showers in the morning thing!

I'm not too concerned about the resort being adult themed. We're happy when the kids are happy. That's why I'm thinking Pop or All Stars Movies might actually be better. Pop looks like a lot of fun and if we decide to try out the busses, I'm thinking I read where they have better service at the value level.

If you're not going to be spending much time in the resort, I would say stay at the Value Resort. It saves a lot of money which is always a good thing. I have stayed at Pop Century and I thought it was great. The bus service was great, rooms were nice, new and clean, and that's enough for me!

After looking at pictures of Pop and AS movies, I'm inclined to think the kids will definitely like the theming here better. I've also been reading reviews on this forum, allearsnet, and intercot. It looks to be a 50/50 toss between AS Movies and Pop.

Anyone ever stay in one of these with an air mattress? Does anyone know if the beds have storage underneath or are they solid?

I know, odd questions. Just thinking that the extra money could be spent elsewhere, like plane tickets(if SWA runs an awesome sale again) :D . Or, we'll still drive and have extra spending money. :D

We've stayed in CBR about 14 yrs ago and AS music maybe 8-10 yrs ago(can't remember exactely). So, I know there's a difference. Just trying to justify the extra $$$$.

Just when I think I've got it all figured out, my brain decides to work logically again......:hammer: :brick:

The food court at CBR is much better than the ones at the values (haven't stayed at a value, just visited). CBR is a quieter resort (not sure why). School groups often go to WDW in the fall and stay at the values (=noise and other not fun stuff). The lines for the busses from the parks to CBR are significantly shorter than the ones for the value resorts. Bigger rooms at CBR. Better scenery at CBR.

I have stayed at both. I would recommend the CBR if you want the sapce and Pop if you want to save some money. If you are like me - I am never in the room unless I am sleeping anyway - why waste the extra money?

IMO $400 is a serious chunk of change for the difference.
I've stayed at POP and CBR. CBR struck me as too big. We were really far away from the food court at CBR.
Both POP and CBR were quiet, but we had top floor rooms, which may have had a part in it.

I'm a lot older than 8, but the fun theming of POP and the values does add to the on-site immersion no matter what your age.
POP is really nice in that it has three pools and at least one seemed uncrowded at all times. The Hippy Dippy pool is closest to the food court and has fountains and such, so usually has the most people.
You're never a far walk from a nice pool at POP, and the resort really isn't very big.

 We have always stayed at moderates till last Feb. and we stayed at POP. we absolutely loved it. we werent in the room long enough to spend the extra money for the moderate. we loved the theming, the rooms, the whimsical stuff to look at everywhere, and yes, actually the food court. Plus, only one bus for POP. No sharing with other resorts. Up to you, though. we have stayed at CBR too. Liked that one as well. Either way, have a magical trip. Next wonderful visit to the world, Jan. 2007. Yaaay!!:sohappy:

I would choose CBR over a Value resort any day. The rooms are just so much bigger. Plus, you get the 2 sinks and free refrigerator! If you really want to stay at a Value, though, then I'd go with the Pop Century. I liked it better than the All Stars. Didn't seem as busy, and I didn't see the huge number of school groups like you see at the All Stars. Plus, Pop plays better music.

I think the CBR would be the last place I would want to stay at, besides the Grand Floridian. The resort is WAY too spaced out, which could be good if you don't use the food court much or do not use the busses. The bus system takes forever over there and I think the Pop Century food court is much better than CBR's. I would chose Pop or either Port Orleans resort, if it were me.

I have stayed at the CBR alot and I stayed at ASsports and most recently ASmovies. I was kinda disappointed with the allstar resorts only one sink in the room instead of 2 like CBR made it a little toughrer to get ready in the morning. My son was 6 when we stayed at the allstar movies and he didnt like it that much, but only thing he has to compare it to is the Boardwalk Villa's. The buses seemed to run at the same speed and frequency at both CBR and AS. I have never been the the pop resort but some of my friends said that they could here a bit of road noise from osceola parkway.

Room suggestions????

I'm thinking very seriously about changing to Pop. We will go for a standard room and want something quiet and out of the way. I'm thinking top floor to one end. Any suggestions?

I LOVE Pop Century. When you really think about it, how much time will you be spending in the room besides sleeping? Also, at PC, they have 1 bus pick-up which is really nice instead of driving all over the resort to pick up at many different bus stops. I love the theming and the gift shop & eatery is really great!! I save my money and go to the value resorts!!!! :animwink:

I have stayed at value resorts and moderates - with the most recent visit being at POP in May. If saving the money is really important to you and you'll be able to have a better vacation with the extra spending money - stay at a value. Otherwise, I'd go for the moderate. The theming at POP is pretty cool, especially for smaller children and the resort is much smaller, therefore not so spread out. During our visit, it was extremly crowded. It made for long waits in the food court (where I wasn't too impressed with the food choices, with the exception of their desserts!!) and for buses. There were also very very long waits for the bus to get back to the resort after park closings - especially on extra magic nights. The rooms do seem quite a bit smaller than a moderate also.
