Does anyone know when the 3 "heads" (deer, buffalo, moose) were removed from Pecos Bills and why? Sorry I can't think of their names other than Buck. I noticed they were gone and was not sure when or why it happened. Unless I am dreaming and they are still there. Is that possible?

Thanks. :)

Max, Buff, and Melvin.

Sorry, don't know when they were removed - if they were.

Does anyone remember when Melvin used to be an actual character and appeared in a Christmas stage show?

Was Melvin in the Christmas show that used to be at the Diamond Horseshoe? I remember a Christmas show something about Merry ChristMoose? My son got to go on stage in the show and they gave him a big MM sucker for participating. From what I remember it was a pretty good show.

When Mile Long Bar was converted to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn
& Cafe, we lost everything. The mirrors that made the restaurant seem like it extended for miles, and, of course, the singing characters. (But also the PULLED CHICKEN SANDWICHES!!!) This was in 1998.

Melvin was in a Chip and Dale Breakfast Show over at the Fort Wilderness Pioneer Hall for years through the early 90s. I had heard of Melvin at the old Diamond Horseshoe Christmas Show, but I never had the opportunity to see it.

Thanks all for the replies. At least I was not dreaming.

So was the Mile Long Bar separate from Pecos Bill's? We ate there on our last trip but I had not been in there in years. I thought it was different but was not sure. I seem to remember going early 90s and the line for Pecos Bills was smaller and seemed almost outside (right next to the outside seating). Is that correct? If so what was the bar?

Thanks.

My memories of the area are that Mile Long Bar had Mexican-type food and next to it was the burger bar. They shared the same seating area. I'm sure Grizz can correct any errors with my memory in this case.

Mile Long Bar was one fo those places as a kid that made me not understand how this place could be SO long. I was astonished and could not understand how nothing was back there.

Places like this we seem to be losing around WDW. Chalk another one up for the missing Main Street Flower Mkt....

Was this also when Pepsi/Frito Lay's sponsorship ended and the total Coca-Cola monopoly began?

That raises another question I've been wanting to ask on this forum. Does anyone have any secrets on where to find a Pepsi product "on-property"? Dear Wife and I have tried everywhere we can think of to find Diet Mt. Dew without driving to off-property grocery/convenience stores with no success.

The clerks @ the on-property gas/convenience stores tell us they're not allowed to sell a Pepsi. What's "convenient" about that????

I've never seen Pepsi products in the park since I have been going (1987).

As for Diet Mountain Dew - at least you can buy it someplace. Pepsi won't sell it in the UK. Several years ago they tried selling a watered down version of it for a few months, but that was it.

I may prefer Diet Coke to Diet Pepsi, but I would love to be able to buy Mountain Dew over here.

I can understand your pain. I nearly wept for joy to discover Pepsi at the airport.

Welcome to the world of monopolies. Exclusive means just that.

Perhaps it's different where you live, but Diet Mt Dew is never found in fountains around these parts. (Perhaps at a 7-11, where they have 30 fountain choices, but never at a restaurant)

I guess you'll just have to bring your own.

As long back as I can remember, Coca Cola was always a sponser and there was no pepsi. I would not really call that a monopoly though as WDW is one large company basically. If you go into a restaurant anywhere else in the country they will have either Coke or Pepsi products not both. They usually just stick to one vendor.

You guys can really tell the difference to the point of going out of your way to get whichever one you prefer?

I always ask for a Coke, which usually means "Coke or Pepsi, whatever you have".

Yeah, Last couple trips down, we just stop @ Walmart on the way from the airport and "stock up". But was really surprised that the on-property convenience stores were restricted regarding what they could sell from their cooler.

Barnum, Pespi/Frito Lay used to be the sponsor of the CBJ and were available in the attached Mile Long Bar.

Yes, I can tell the difference. Pepsi is smoother and sweeter.

However, I will drink either one. Actually, I usually drink non-colas anyway at WDW. I shared most drinks with my son, who always ordered Sprite. I am also a major orange soda fan.

I personally think Pepsi kicks Coke's butt, but I like the sweeter stuff. So it would be nice to see Pepsi in Disney but I also think Sprite is better than Sierra Mist so thats kind of a no win battle there! So I always just get sprite when Im there. And I didnt even know there was a diet Mt. Dew. I dont know if I've ever seen it. Though I dont like Mt. Dew so I really dont go looking for it.

Don't know about smoother, but it's certainly sweeter. This is why I prefer Diet Coke, it's not a sweet.

Although I have a sweet tooth, I don't like sweet drinks.

Chalk this up to nostalgia, but I was very dissappointed when the flower market area, especially the cart was removed to expand the retail stores. My mother, every time we visited, had to have numerous pictures of her children in front of that area. As a kid, I hated it, well because it was a bunch of flowers. As an adult, when I saw that it was taken from us, I kind of got verclempt, misty eyed, ok, down right tear in my eye, that it was gone, because I knew how much it meant to my mother......

You are not alone. They took the proper barbershop away as well. Was the replacement store any good? No - just more of the generic crap they sell everywhere else in the parks.

I agree. There were so many unique stores in the past that sold interesting things. Now it is all the same stuff everywhere. I think at one time the only store on Main Street to sell Disney related stuff was the Emporium which was not the whole side of the street back then. Now it is one big continous store. It is sad. Now the Frontierland Trading Post is a pin shop. All new attractions force you into a store to make your kid's (if you have them) eyes light up. It was so much nicer the old way...
