Is it just me or is Catastrophe Canyon in MAJOR need of rehab? Everything is black from the fire and there are holes in the walls and ceiling...nastiest canyon I've ever seen...

I concur and I also think the whole Backlot tour needs an update. I don't think it's ever had a major change. It definitely has lots its appeal to me and needs something new and flashy.

How can you have a Backlot Tour when the studio is now defunct? I suppose they could use it as a dumping ground for old props from movies. But that is now an industry in itself and I cant see this company missing the opertunity to cash in on movie memorabelia.

I think the canyon needs a rehab but the rest is fine. And the studios arent totally shut down.. WD Feature Animation still works out of the studios...that'a all that matters to me. :D

It seems like the only parts of the tour that change with any regularity are the costumes on display when you ride through the costuming building.
Catastrophe Canyon has been in need of refurbishment for a couple of years now. I also think they need to rethink the area once devoted to Backstage Pass. They could utilize the space for something -- maybe a special effects show that's a little more creative than just putting somebody in front of a blue screen.

I think Catastrophe needs a completely new paint job (not just patchwork) and all the holes in the walls need to be fixed...I also think Residential Street could use some new facades...as for the Pearl Harbor effects tank...I actually like it

I think the Backlot Tour was a jewel. Now it's just another attraction which can be easily missed or overpassed without giving it any importance. Many people don't even know it exist. I remember when the Backlot included the Roger Rabbit stop and the HISTK stop with the gigantic Bee, that was really cool.

What I would love to see is something completly different. Maybe a new catastrophe canyon, with something else inside of it, not just the semi and the water. Anyone have any cool ideas as to what you can do? Maybe something like twister in universal. I dunno. :brick:

I think the whole park kinda needs a rehab. Last time i went, i went to rockin rollercoaster, tower of terror, the great movie ride and muppets 3d. There could be more to add yano? What exactly im not sure. I guess i just dont have as much fun there as i do in the other parks. I usually spend a half a day there. I dunno I dunno!

I'm just saying what the tour guide told us in 2000 when I was there, so don't kill the messenger, but he said that Catastrophe Canyon had a rehab in 1999.

I forgot to mention that I would also like to see the dragon thing from Disney Studios Paris here too, not a replacement, but rather a whole other part to the tour so you go through 2 special effects demonstrations, instead of just one, much like they do on the tour at Universal Hollywood.

The Canyon was closed for several months last year for a complete Overhaul and paint job.

It looked great for a few weeks, and then it was all black again.

Unless they close it down, for the moths for so it takes to paint it, every otehr month, there isn't much they can do.

I agree.

I noticed last week that the Canyon looked "dirty and burnt" and I had not noticed this on past visits.

I have also always rolled my eyes and the movie props, etc. Seems like they haven't added anything new in years. I want to see homes used in current productions. Goldren Girls? Great... but how about something new also. Same with the props.. how about at least one or two from the late 90's??

The Tram Tour has always been a bad rip off of another unmentionable park.

It's intended for the midwest tourists who actually think they are seeing actual movie sets, and props. To try to stretch their in-park experience to nearly a full day.

Productions

I still say that they should produce more shows there. If prime time shows cannot be filmed there because the actors won't come, them don't forget daytime shows that the audience could participate in. Why not a new MMC or something similar. Then the backlot stuff could be used and/or constantly renewed with something familiar.

And, as for actors who will not come to Florida from L.A. (as is often the excuse given for fewer productions there), then hire the new blood from the East Coast who will work there. Maybe Hollywood needs some new blood anyway! It seems like many of the best "new faces" come from outside Hollywood originally, anyway....

Keep things new all the way around, and use the studios to their potential.

In all fairness on that point, they do offer up props from Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, etc. And if you're ever actually in a large enough group that they have to wind you through the prop house before boarding the tram (which has only happened to me once -- you usually have to walk through too fast to look at anything), you can also see plenty of stuff from recent movies. I'm especially fond of the bug arm and weapons from Starship Troopers.

The problem is nothing is labeled, so half of the stuff in there could just be crap -- and probably is.

Midwest tourists? I always thought it was intended for the hillbilly folk from North Carolina?!

I thought it was intended for everyone...all of MGM is supposed to be in California, and there are certainly canyons much like our Catastrophe in California. I just think it's an all around great ride. They could fireproof the canyon walls...I would like to see a better earthquake effect (like maybe something actually moves on the set...). I would also like to see big fans added to generate extremely powerful wind as the "rain" falls. As for Residential Street...I am probably just about as young as you can get and still know what most of those shows even were (prime example: Golden Girls). Any kids would be clueless...

Also have you noticed a sign for the old show "Blossom" Just wondering, how many years has that show been off the air??? :D
