How long does it generally take? I hope this means they'll finish early.

I'm absolutely shocked that they plan on having that crane there during on the 40th? Who was the idiot that didn't think this through?

They will be gone before then as noted in a WDW Magic post a month ago.

Another mention about Christmas lights: as of this week, you can see the lights going up on Streets of America as well as sections being roped off for the displays that go up with Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

couldn't they just do a similar effect using the projectors they currently have?

it just seems so much of a ball ache to every year get a crane out, put thousands of lights on a castle only to take them all down again.

unlike the average folks christmas tree that could be put up with the lights etc in under a few hours this is something that just seems really tedious...

I expect (hope) the castle projections are utilized in subsequent fireworks shows - the effect is great and can really enhance the fireworks shows.

Am I reading this right? You do realize that the castle is almost 200 feet tall...

well, I did note that there was a post dating back, more than a month, July actually....that stated that the crane will be in place until the 26th.

However, a far more recent post on another website suggests that the crane will be on-site until Oct 4th.

Would like to have confirmation either way.....but for now, I'm not going to discount more recent information (from a source as equally reliable) until there's confirmation suggesting otherwise.

Back on topic: No, the castle projections wouldn't give the same effect as the light strands/nets. On the other hand, it might be nice to be able to see the castle the way it was meant to be seen during the day without the lights hanging on it. But that's what I have to deal with for going when I do.

The problem with Disney doing anything right is that once they start they can never stop. Good luck getting rid of the MM&Y show (or something like it) People would complain about it for years if it completely went away.

Personally I like the effect and would love it if they would keep then on the castle year round, but I understand why they would not.

Just gives me a reason to go see Mickey and view the Castle in one of its many seasons. I love the lights, the 1st time we saw them was while eating at the Plaza at a window table and it lit up and changed colors. Absolutely gorgeous!! Going again after Thanksgiving this year and can't wait.

I would have thought that with the money Disney has at their disposal for effects like this that they would have somehow added the lights seamlessly into the "bricks" of the castle. So they would not have to take anything down and put back up constantly and it wouldn't be an eyesore during the day around this time of the year. We know they have the tech to do it. The walkways have fiber optic lights built into them after all. And you cannot see them during the day.

I always thought about that too, but imagine how much work, and how many lights they would have to use.
