Casting process question

Hi Everyone!

I will be re-locating to Orlando end of July, early August 2007.

I wanted to run my plan past others who have relocated to see if my plan makes sense to you.

Right now, we are planning on flying down early July 2007 to hopefully secure jobs through the casting offices across from Downtown Disney with a start date around 8/1/2007. I am interested in working Front Desk/Concierge for any of the Disney Hotels, or would be insterested in working as a Reservation Sales Agent through the CRO.

If we can secure jobs stating our start date, this should help us when we need to secure an apartment in the area. As I assume they will need to see that we both have jobs, when we apply for an apartment.

Do any of you know if Disney hires on the spot for a Hotel Front Desk position? It makes me nervous planning this huge move out of state, and not having a job/apartment all set for when we actually move. Also do you know if these Casting offices have weekend hours to meet with prospective cast members?

I figure we could take a long weekend to hopefully meet with the casting people, get job offers and then take a day to drive around Orlando to see all of the areas of the city, to learn which areas we may want to live in. Then we come home and pack up the Uhaul and start the drive from Wisconsin to Florida.

I very much would appreciate any comments from people who have made the move for disney. I am both nervous and very excited for this move. Any help you can offer re the casting process would be sincerely appreciated.

I don't think you are giving yourself enough time. Apartments are not easy to find let alone nice, clean, safe, cheap, close to Disney apartments. The ones that haven't gone condo sometimes have wait lists.

If you are set on working for Disney you really should be close to Disney. Traffic can be a nightmare and even being as close as 10 miles can take a while to get there.

I went through this almost 2 years ago. We planned on moving down the end of June 2005. I came down Nov 2004 (7 months before) looked at 9 apartments in a weekend all close to Disney area. I then came down in January and again the end of March/beginning of April for my DH to start the job transfer process. I applied for my apartment and put down the credit check deposit. I heard back about a week later. We had to move 10 months after moving down because our apt. went condo as most of the orginal 9 I looked at have.

Keep in mind that it is NOT cheap to live here. Make sure that you have enough back up money saved to last a few months living expenses until you figure out EXCATLY what they will be. I under estimated food and electric BIG TIME!

Best of luck to you. Sorry that I can't help with the CM part. Disney just didn't pay enough to work there and live here.

You can make some GOOD money at CRO, but beware, it's a high-stress position. I did it for about 3 months and couldn't take it anymore. not my cup o' tea. However, the incentive (bonus) checks made it ALMOST worth it for me. If you're good at what you do, you can pull in some serious cash. But for me, an extra grand a month was not worth the stress.

Why don't you just wait to get settled down here, and get everything in order..and then go to the casting center? Like others have said, just give yourselves some time.

BrerKev-
if you need some locations of good apartments - let me know
there are a few complexes you should definitely stay away from
