So my wife has read some info on other sites that says there are signs on castaway cay saying beware of sharks and barracudas. I'm assuming that if there are signs they are just part of the "SHOW" that Disney is famous for. Can anyone that has ever went on that excursion confirm that its safe for my family and they wont be eaten by Jaws ;) ? LOL Thanks.

If you are referring to the signs that I am thinking of, they are a "CYA" type of sign. Cataway Cay is safe, it is a sheltered cove that has a shallow underwater wall seperating it from the open ocean.

However, it IS open to the ocean, and things can happen. Jellyfsih can get in, barracuda could get in, red tide could get in. A shark *could* get in if it really wanted to. It is just like going to the beach - chances are nothing is going to happen, but something *could*.

I guess some people think that since it is Disney, they sanitize the ocean and make it danager proof. They signs pretty much say, "Hey, this is a real ocean people"

Thanks. I wasn't aware that it any of it was open to the ocean. This is good information.

The family beach (and snorkling ) is in the lagoon, which is sheltered and while open to the ocean, has a rock jetty that (taking a guess here) is about 6-8 feet under the surface going across the opening.

The adult only beach is directly on the ocean.
