Just wondering what you guys bring with you money wise. Not necessarily the amount but do you bring only cash, only travellers cheques or a combination of both?

Thanks

I take mostly travellers cheques and some cash, have never had any problems with TC's at Disney (or Universal, Sea World or Malls) just sign one when paying for food, souvenirs etc and they give me change, real easy.

We also take mostly TC's, as we are from the UK, its safer than taking loads of bills, plus you get your change in cash, so you always end up with real money anyway. We never had any problems with them being accepted except in Clearwater on the Gulf coast, shop assistants in small shops had to call for the manager as they had no idea what to do, it occassonally felt like we were trying to con them!

I prefer to use cash where I can. I put my money into the checking account before a trip and hit the ATM a couple of times on a trip. It can be easy to overspend when just charging things to a room and get a huge shock at the end of a trip. If real money is changing hands that keeps my impulse buying in check.

Totally agree!

If you want to stay on a buget at the World do it in cash!
Seeing those dollars leaving your hand to someone elses hand makes you thing about it.

We have used a combo of both. But it is becoming harder to useTravellers cheques(Not usually at disney). some places, especially smaller places don't know what they are and won't take them. Just cash(Very little) and a credit card for our next trip I think

I use credit/debit cards for absolutely everything at WDW. I have a fear of losing my wallet (if you knew me personally, you'd know this is well-founded) so I almost never carry cash.

Ever since Disney implemented mobile credit card processing at all of their carts, I've found cash unnecessary there.

Though I understand people who say using cash helps you keep track of your budget. I've never really thought of it that way.

I take about $500 cash and the rest in TC's. I never had problems cashing them at Disney although elsewhere, they're looked at like foreign currency. If I need some cash, I usually cash some at Guest Services. I had considered using my debit card this time, but I find it easier to budget our expenses when I know how much I have left vs how many days we have left.

We used to carry AAA travelers checks but they quit selling them and we tried the bank and they only carried certain denominations and so we just stopped using that form of money. We carrry cash now. We do carry a credit card but it is for an emergency only (like a new tire, etc.) Everything is paid for in cash. Some we stash in the car, the rest we carry. Never had a problem.

Cash.

I did the travelers checks thing a couple years back, and it was such a pain in the butt. I don't have a precise signature, so I constantly was given a hard time when using them. Then, we misplaced $500 worth of them. I was always under the impression you got the money right back. Not so. You have to file a claim and wait a few weeks. How does that help while on vacation?

Knock on wood, I've never had a problem with cash. On the way to Disney, I carry it in a pack tied so tight to me, you'd need pliers to get it off. Once there, it all goes in the safe, save for what I need for each day.

I would never use my debit card in Disney. Too many transactions to keep track of.

Two years ago, we arrived before our room was ready by several hours and we were going to the parks, so we had our excess cash & TC's locked in the safe at Guest Services. We don't use our debit card either since it's hard to watch the budget.

We just got some travelers checks at AAA last month over in Michigan for our Spring Break trip. And they were free since we are CAA members to boot!

We have always brought at least $500 US for gas, meals, room for the night on the way down (we drive down) and groceries and things and then a couple of thousand in US travelers checks from AAA (free of charge if you are a CAA/AAA member). When we check in, we use the visa to set up our KTTW card so that we can just charge everything to the room. We then lock the cash and checks in the room safe and then just grab a check every day or two to go down and pay of the balance on the room before it gets to big. We usually get the travelers checks in $50 or $100 denominations and either have them where my wife and I both have to sign them or so many in my name and so many in her name. We have never had a problem cashing them in anywhere on Disney property, as well as at any of the local stores or restaurants we have visited when we venture off property (Target or Sam's Club).

Almost forgot...this year we also used Disney gift cards (purchased at Sam's Club for a nice deal) to pay for a lot of things while on property.
