Cash passport

Hi
I am planning my first disneyworld trip and am a bit nervous about taking a lot of cash. Has anyone from the UK used a Sainsburys cash passport ( MasterCard)? I was wondering if you can use them everywhere in the parks?

Thanks!

I assume this is a pre-paid MasterCard? So it doesn't incur a charge every time you use it, and no foreign transaction charges either? I don't know too much about it. Personally I have a Caxton FX card, which is also MasterCard. I load it in US dollars so it's then a debit card in dollars. The only transaction fee I pay is the one when loading it (from my own UK bank account).

But yes, you will be able to use a MasterCard in the parks.

If you are staying at a Disney motel another way to avoid carrying cash is to have a credit card on file and set up a PIN number for your room and use you magic bands to charge back to your room. I don't know exactly how the credit cards work with UK visitors, so I suggest you contact Disney at the link below:

From there you can choose chat, email, or phone.

I would highly recommend a Revolut card. It's what most airline cabin crew use. It's app controlled, you load money straight from your bank or apple pay for example within the app. You can add funds in any currency, so when you know your bill (you can see it in your MDE account)and it was for example $1000 dollars, you don't need to work it out in to pounds, just add a $1000 and its available instantly. Saves adding more than you need, and money can stay in your bank earning interest. Any monies you leave on the card can be transferred back to your bank, or to another user, and all free to use. All card security is handled within the app too, you can disable card when not in use, and turn on or off online use, mag strip, contactless, and cash withdrawal et cetera. It has better exchange rates than credit cards and all high street bureau de change (and most online ones too) and can be used anywhere, it also has no charges or commission to move money around. We use it all over the world and when we stay at Disney, we just pay off whatever we've charged back to our rooms with it.

Just like Caxton, in fact! ;)

Ummm, why should U.K. Credit cards work any differently at the "motel"? Lol!! But you're right if they'd staying onsite. As OP didn't say, I gave a more general answer.

The difference is in the minimum transaction fees and foreign exchange fees, which means using a creadit/debit card often adds a minimum of $4 to any transaction. So the last thing any of us UKers should do is use our ordinary debit or credit cards at every till.

Just like Caxton!

There are several such cards available. Caxton has the advantage of you not needing to be a customer of a specific bank. And you can use it like a debit card, at ATM etc too if you need cash. The money is already loaded in dollars.

All the loading must be done with a debit card though, which is easy for re-loading whilst away, but may not suit everyone.

Bang on Nickys, very similar, save for charges and loading. This is why it’s the most popular with Airline crew, as they use it all over the world all the time. But any of that ilk will suffice for yearly trips et cetera. There’s also one called Monza, but they charge you for your account where others don’t. They are all much of a muchness to be fair. So much more secure than carrying cash, or using the old travellers cheques!!! Thankfully they’re not a thing anymore, they were good in their day though, not so in this day an age.
