Carsland Strategy

I will be taking my 9 year old DD to DL Nov. 15-19. She is so excited about seeing Carsland. However, I am getting a bit nervous. I have been reading that RSR has huge waits and FPs are often gone within minutes. (sounds very much like Toy Story at WDW). We are staying off-site so will not have the early entry privilege. As a family, we go to WDW regularly, but this will likely be the only trip my DD has to DL. So, any advice on a plan for Carsland? Do we wait in line for a FP or just go straight to the ride and get in line? Since it is just me and my DD this trip, we won't have a FP runner and will need to stay together either waiting in line for a FP or in the regular line at RSR.

The wait times for RSR have gone down tremendously. The wait time hovers around 50-70 minutes now. Before it was at least two hours. At this point, I'd say you're good to just wait in standby.:)

I have just got back from vacation where we spent 2 days at DCA.

I can tell you we got in the FP line right away on our first visit and we had FP's within about 20 mins of waiting.

The stand by line also only got as long as 1hr 15 and as low as 45 mins in parts.

We also did the single rider line (which I wouldn't recommend for you and a child) but single rider was only about 20 mins.

I would recommend getting a FP and waiting in line when it's quieter.

The line moves which is good I don't mind a long line that seems to be moving where as I can't stand a line that isn't as long but hardly moves.

Make sure you are there when the park opens and proceed to the FP line. The FP line moves rather quickly because they have had CMs manning the machines and pulling the FPs. After you secure your FPs I would suggest moving to the Luigii and Mater atrractions, in that order. This will usually be the shortest wait time of the day for those two attractions.

Just so you know, the FP line is on the left hand side of street.
It is sign posted but there are often that many people there people can't see the sign and there seemed to be confusion.
Stick to the left and you'll be in line :D

According to touringplans.com, the 15th will be by far the least crowded day of your trip. Even if DCA has early entry for hotel guests, I would try to get a Fastpass then. Also, the standby times shouldn't be so bad that day... maybe 60-70 minutes like @raven24 said.

In case you haven't heard, Carsland will likely be decorated for Christmas by then; something else for you and your daughter to be excited about!

On this past Friday evening the Standby wait for Racers was posted at 120 minutes and the switchbacks were set up in the street across from Flo's. DCA was a zoo and Cars Land was mobbed on Friday evening. They had stopped letting people in the Single Rider line because it was "full", so I just skipped riding Racers that night.

On busy days Cars Land is still very crowded and Racers can generate long lines. You should plan your itinerary so Cars Land is done on the slowest morning of your trip.

I was there in early September. I never saw the line any less than 60 minutes and as high as 75 minutes. Look, I know she's 9 years old, but if she doesn't mind the chance of being in another car you might be better off in the single riders line. My wife and I did it and in the end she was in the same car as me directly behind me. It worked out fine and it cut the wait dramatically. The fastpass ran out so quickly. Do whatever you'd like, but do not miss that ride. Sort of reminds me of a much superior version of Test Track. Overall Carsland is epic. The other two rides are simple waits and worth it as well. The Junkyard Jamboree is a riot. And I would also recommend not passing up the walk through part where they go into details about the making of Carsland.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like the best plan is to arrive early, head straight for the FP line and then go to Carsland to enjoy the other attractions. After we have a FP, we may try the standby line if it isn't too long. I think 60min is about the max we are willing to wait in standby. Single rider is an option if my daughter is comfortable with it. I was planning on DCA Nov 15 since that looks to be the least busy day of the days we are there.

I agree...

but riding RSR in the evening when it is dark is surely too magical to miss.

I would have loved to ride this at night, I got my fast pass first thing in the morning at rope drop. It was for 10:30 am. We went to the ride at about 10:30 and it was down. We came back after lunch and rode it. If you save your fastpass for the night just be warned that it does go down a lot and you are taking a gamble of not getting to ride it at all.

Bizarrely, I have never seen the ride down.
To ride it at night we did have to sacrifice world of Color though.... However I'm not WOC's biggest fan so I was ok with that.

At night it went from being amazing to beautifully magical.

Sounds like a good strategy. Hope it all goes well for you.

Sorry but curiosity: What will the crowds at DHS be on November 30th?
