Cars: The Title

We were watching Cars for the millionth time last night, and it occurred to me what an amazingly lazy and boring title that is: "Cars." Really? They couldn't come up with anything more interesting? Had they thought of calling Finding Nemo "Fish?"

But I seem to remember there was at least one Pixar or other animated movie that had a very confusing title and it bombed (as I recall) so I guess they want to be very clear in their titles.

Of course, I didn't know that "Tangled" was about Rapunzel until recently, so...

What name do you recommend for it?

For Cars? Well, something that refers to the characters and/or story, like most movies. As I said above, it's like if "Finding Nemo" had been titled "Fish," or if Pocahontas had been called "Native Americans." I guess I should be happy Toy Story wasn't just called "Toys." I don't know, "Lightning McQueen: Escape from Radiator Springs." IMO a title should tell more than the species about which with it deals. But, I do think it was done sort of purposefully.

Escape from Radiator Springs wouldn't work because he really didn't want to escape in the end. But hey there's a good movie coming out soon. It's called Planes. Just Planes. Planes that Race All Over the World is to big to put on the theater marquee.

I actually like how Pixar names their movies. Once Toy Story came out people knew who Pixar was and we knew what they were going to deliver, and this became more apparent as more Pixar movies were released. Since we already know what kind of movie we are getting from Pixar, they title acted as more of a hook then an actual description. So when you first hear the title Cars, you think about how Toy Story took us into the world of toys and you can figure that this movie will take us into the world of Cars in the same way. Since Cars we have gotten a lot of very vague names from Pixar, "Up", "Brave", "Ratatouille", "WALL-E".

I think these titles also help separate Pixar movies from Disney's animated films which tended to use character based titles.
