Hey Guys! I'm looking for some advice...my first time at Disney. My husband and I are taking my five year old to the CB. Do we need to rent a car? Some guidebooks are saying the WDW transportation is terrible and if we don't want to spend a lot of time commuting we should have a rental car...What do you think?

I've never had too much trouble w/ WDW Transport...the only times there are long lines are pretty much at park closing, and you wait just as long to get a car out...if you aren't planning on leaving the disney property, you don't really need a rental car.

Just like DogsRule said you really don't need it unless your going to go off of the property. Some relatives of mine rented a car when they were down and returned it the next day because they decided it really wasn't worth it. I use the WDW transport all the time and it's not that bad :)

We prefer the WDW transport system. Not only for the comvenience, we meet the nicest people while on the bus! It is just part of the Disney magic for us! Some of the bus drivers have hilarious and informative spiels while they drive.

Disney Transportation overall is great. You definately don't need a car. I think the issues with the Carribean Beach is that it is really spread out, and the bus has to stop at many different points before it gets on it's way to the parks. You might be taking a 10 min tour of the resort everyday. It might be quicker to hop in the car to get to Epcot,MGM, and AK. Disney Transpo is always the way to go to the MK. You can bypass the Ticket and Transpo center and monorail ride and they take you right to the MK gates.

renting a car isn't very cheap...I guess it matters how much you value those ten minutes:) If you get up ten minutes earlier...no big deal:) also, I always eat breakfast in food courts, and the buses are right there, whereas at a moderate, you generally park near your room, which can be quite far from the food court...

With CBR being my choice of on-property stay, I will have to say that I've never had a problem with transportation.

We rent a car to drive down (from Mobile, Alabama), but once there, the car sits in the parking lot until we leave to head home. The only time I ever had a complaint was leaving Epcot one night my last trip (Oct 2001), and that was mainly due to being tired and wanting to get off my feet. The bus was a little late, but nothing to be upset about.

But then I thought about it, and realized, well I could be trying to remember where the car was, having to work my way out of the parking lot, get back to the resort, find my set of buildings, park, etc.....or, walk a little bit, and wait for a bus to take me there.

As far as "touring" CBR, this all depends on where the bus enters\exits the resort. There's more than one way in\out, and it also depends on the island you're staying at. You could be the first stop, or you could be the last, or somewhere in between.

Anyway, I would say go with the WDW transportation. But thats my opinion. :)

Glad to hear all of your positive responses. My husband was starting to get a little anxious, but it sounds like from all of your experiences WDW transportation is fine. Thanks:animwink:

I've stayed at most of the resorts on-property. The easiest ones transportation-wise are obviously the "Monorail resorts". But these are also very pricey. I found the transportation to CBR, POFQ and POR to be very efficient. You rarely wait more than ten minutes for a bus and they pick up and drop off alot closer to the gates than you can park. Even the service to the All-Stars is good.
The only negative is going between some parks direct. If you want to do Animal Kingdom in the morning and MGM in the afternoon, a car makes this alot easier. But, if you plan to take a pool or nap break in the middle, I use the buses.

they have busses b/t all the parks. However they don't send em often. If I'm at MGM or AK and want to get to MK, I usually just go to the Contemporary and board the monorail. It's nice to see the inside of the Contemporary and it's faster...MGM to AK is pretty much by bus, and depending on where you are at Epcot, you could take either bus or boat to MGM, and you'd have to take a bus to AK. I don't find it TOO bad...just gotta be resourceful.

We had excellent bus service to and from the parks last May while we were at CBR! We find it much more enjoyable to relax on the bus rather than deal with parking and taking trams to the park entrances. We were very glad we didn't bother renting a car last year. Next month I'm going back to CBR and we won't bother with a car.
