Carousel Question

I have always thought that the carousel was named "Cinderella's Golden Carousel," but the other day, I noticed the sign in front of the queue naming it "Prince Charming Regal Carousel." Has this always been the name or was the name changed at some point? Also, is it spelled 'carousel' 'carrousel' or 'carousell'? At this moment, none of those options look right.

They recently changed the name over the summer. I think they did it because Fantasyland was too girly. Who knows.

Disney also changed the name of the People Mover in the last few months? With so many issues in the parks I wonder why renames are of such burning importance?

Is there any way Disney could benefit somehow on the book$ by doing this? After all Cinderella's Golden Carousel is no longer in the park.
