Caribbean Beach Music

Well, i've tried to think about where else I can post this, and this is the only spot that really makes sense. Anyway, I stayed at the Caribbean Beach last month (One of my Fav. Disney Resorts :D) and my sister told me that the music that gets played in Old Port Royale, is actually a group, and they put out a CD. It's Disney music Caribbean style, I was wondering if anyone knew who this group was? Thanks!

The Gift Shop

Usually, if the music is from a group, you can find it in the resort's gift shop. Animal Kingdom Lodge sells the music they play. Try WDW mail-order, or contact the resort directly. Hope this helps!

I hope this makes some sense:

One of my favorite songs they play in OPR, as I understand the lyrics, sounds like it goes "Shake, shake, shake senora, shake your body right...."

And, this steel drum style song was actuially used as the theme song to the short lived WB "comedy" The Help, thispast tv season. I was flipping through the channels and I heard the song and could not believe it. I guess a group sings it, a steel drum group, and that maybe CDs are available.

They play a lot of steel drum "Under the Sea" in OPR, too, lol.

Back in the day, OPR did sell cassette tapes with steel drum music. Which I know because my parents purchased one. I haven't seen the tapes in years, though.

While I don't have a copy of the Caribbean Beach loop listing on my site, the CD you're describing sounds like one that is also used in the Old Key West loop. The CD is called "Beauty and the Beat." Here's an amazon.com link:

Back when I worked in POTC merchandise, I know we sold the CD in that shop as well. It was at one of the registers by the fountain in the middle of the store. This was a couple of years ago, however, so I'm not sure if they still carry it.

That would be Jump In The Line by Harry Belefonte (married to Gloria Estefan I beleive). That particular song is probably most well known as the end credit music of Beetlejuice (Harry Belefonte's "Day-O" is also featured in the movie). It would make sense for that to be played in OPR considering he is a latin artist.

I also recall some Jimmy Buffet in OPR. I'd assume that the music played in there is a collection of various Caribbean influenced artists. I also seem to remember some Bob Marley there, but it's been years since I've stayed there.

Here's the link to what I have for the OKW loop... looks alot like what you're describing.

I imagine they use the same or very similar loop for Old Key West and Caribbean Beach considering the theme is similar. Thanks for the info I like your site! :)
