Carb Counts?

My husband was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, and we're really new at meal planning. We've got a trip planned for late November. Does anyone know if there are carb counts posted anywhere for the WDW restaurant menus? Thank you!

Hey there

I'm also a diabetic and I have had no problems eating in WDW. I have not found any carb counts so I travel with my pocket counter. As you get more used to figuring things out you won't even need that. Does he see a diabetic educator? That would be a big help. If not go thru the menus, pick out foods that he might like and look up the counts...they won't be perfect because you don't know the exact amount they serve, but you can come close. If you want any more specifics or tips feel free to PM me and I'll do the best I can to help.

My mother is diabetic and I was having trouble with carb count on restaurant food.

Do talk to the chefs as they can often make special low carb meals for you and can maybe give you lists of ingredients on meals or other help. Disney staff is very good at providing for special diets like diabetes, low salt and allergies. They can make your husband low carb meals or meals that are for a diabetes plan.

Look at online copies of menus for what is there. You should be able to figure out what the carbs are based on internet carb counters and stuff sold in the stores. I have never had a problem doing it that way. The local restaurant serves pot roast with gravy but they do not even know what a carb is probably.

I have never seen anywhere in any restaurant in the US a list of carbs on menu items. Watch for beans as mom drops her sugars low after eating Bush's beans and also Van Camp pork & beans. A church member also has had lowered sugars after eating beans.

Hey:wave:
Fellow diabetic carb counter here! I would highly highly recommend The Doctor's Pocket Calorie Fat and Carbohydrate Counter. It includes all kinds of fast food places and is very thorough from my needs!

Of course, please remember to stay hydrated in the Florida heat, as it will quickly raise blood sugars!

Please PM me if you have more questions! I'd be glad to help in any way I can!:D

Thought about something last night...don't know if your hubby has any problems with hypoglycemia (my meds do not cause it), but always carry a snack with you at all times...I like those peanutbutter crackers that come 6 in a pack. 3 of them equal 15 carbs, have protein & fat and the entire pack can make a quick meal if need be. The lines can be long in WDW and if its snack time or he is feeling "low" they are a great pick me up. Also, if he does have problems with hypoglycemia bouts make sure you have some glucose pills handy as they will quickly raise bloodsugars and avoid problems. Also, as mentioned above, make sure he drinks a lot of water and monitors his sugars...all of that extra walking usually pushes mine down. I find I can "cheat" on my carb counts a bit without any problems.
