car rental

Okay, I have airline tickets, a 6 day park hopper pass and hotel reservations. The only thing left is the car rental. I have read (in the unofficial guide...ding) that you can form some sort of relationship with car rental companies that allows you to skip the line at the airport. My question is exactly how does this work and what car companies have people used in this fashion. Is it worth it? Thanks for any help.

Alamo has a "kiosk" where you can put in your drivers' license and credit card and get your paper work. We tried to do it, but because in Illinois when your license expires and if you don't need to retest, they send you a little sticker to put on the back of your license. Unfortunately, the machine will not pick up that little sticker code so we ended up standing in line. It took us about 15 minutes in line...we arrived in Orlando at 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday.

I've used Avis Preferred. Once you pick up your bags at baggage claim you just walk across the street to the parking garage, pick up your keys and you are on your way.

Alamo also has a feature that lets you check in online. Just fill some forms out online and pay for it and print it out. Then go straight to the garage pick out what type of rental you bought and drive right to the final check out booth in the garage. The easiest and fastest service I have ever used ! :animwink:

-Alamo has online check-in
-National has the Emerald Club that you pay to join but Mousesavers can get you a membership for free
-Hertz has their Gold Club which you must pay for
-Avis has Preferred Service which is free

I'm sure the others have programs as well, but those are the ones I know off the top of my head. I'd just look for who has the best rates and deal with the check-in process later. The only really long lines I've ever seen have been at Alamo and now that they have online and kiosk check-in it shouldn't be that bad.
