Car Hire - Now or later?

Hi everyone,

I've just been looking into car hire for my trip next year as I understand it is pretty much essential (I'm a 1st timer) I was just wondering, is it better to book it in advance so as to guarantee a vehicle or can you get a late deal cheaper (like flights)? Also is there any deals or money saving tips that anyone knows of? Apologies for my naivety but I really don't know much about travelling abroad. TIA

Hi Rich. Welcome aboard. We always rent a car when we're at Disney. We're a pretty spontaneous group and hate being tied down to someone else's transportation schedule. I've rarely seen any price advantage in waiting; it's usually the opposite--discounts become harder to find when the supply of cars dwindles. So you're better off to do it early.

Here's a couple of tips to save money: First, join a frequent renter's club with one of the US or international companies. I belong to National's Emerald Isle club and have gotten some great deals through them. Second, check out the discount codes on Mousesavers.com. I've done very well there too, particularly with American Express Card discount codes.

Hello and welcome to the boards,
In my opinion, it's not always necessary to rent a car. If you stay onsite at WDW, you can use Magical Express to get to and from the airport. If you are unfamiliar with Magical Express, it is a shuttle service that Disney provides to resort guests that allows guests to head to their resort while Disney takes care of picking up your luggage. Then once you are onsite, you can use Disney transportation for all your needs.

If you are staying offsite, then you will need a car and all of the above is null and void:lol:
I would recommend checking with AAA, as their discount may nearly pay for itself if it is significant enough. You can also use AAA to get a small discount on Disney packages.
