Cape May vs Chef Mickey - Last Day

Our departure flight does not leave until 6PM. We will not be going to one of the parks this day. We want to do a character meal at some point during our trip. Since we won't be going to a park, we figured our last day would be a good time to do it to give us something to do and not take away from any park time. One last thing, we went to Chef Mickey's 4 yrs ago and have never been to Cape May's.

What would be your preference thus your recommendation of Cape May or Chef Mickey? Additionally, if you say Chef Mickey do you recommend breakfast or brunch? Lastly, what are your reason(s) for your pick? Thanks for the help.

We've been to Cape May many times for breakfast and have always enjoyed it. It seems more laid back than other character meals we've been to. Food's good, too; and of the about 8 times we've been there, we've gotten exceptionally excellent service 7 of the 8. I went to Chef Mickey's once with a large group. It seemed very loud and disorganized (and not just the group I was with), the food was mediocre, and the characters seemed a little rushed. Of course, it also depends on where you're staying. The convenience of the location trumps all.

I've done both breakfasts and Cape May has been much more enjoyable. You won't see Mickey, but the food is far better (and more varied). The atmosphere is more relaxing and less rushed.

I usually get a breakfast reservation on the later side and the character interactions have been lengthy and fun. Surf music plays every half hour or so and they have a little dance party with the kids.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly with @Simba's Mom -- the service at Cape May is pretty much consistently excellent; way, way better than Chef Mickey's.

I can't compare because I've never been to Chef Mickey's but I can say that the food and service at Cape May are always very good. Cape May is also located in a pleasant, relaxing space. I don't like to contradict other posters but I completely disagree that you can "spend a good part of the day" on the boardwalk. We stay in that area (YC, BC, BW) often and while we love the area and we always take a walk around the lake loop morning and night, there really isn't anything to do. There are restaurants, but you'll already have eaten. There are places to have a cocktail or share a bottle of wine, but it's your travel day so that may not suit you. There is an art gallery/ jewelry store and a store that sells Disney merchandise but the arcade and candy store are gone. There's a new ice cream parlor, but again, you just ate. Depending on the time of year, the boardwalk also gets really, really hot on a sunny afternoon. There are no performers until evening. I honestly think you'll be bored, especially if you're traveling with kids. Don't get me wrong- it's absolutely lovely. I just can't imagine spending a day there if I wasn't staying in one of the hotels.

We have eaten at both on multiple occasions. The advantage Chef Mickey's is you get the fab five including Mickey and Pluto whereas at Cape May Cafe you only get Minnie, Goofy and Donald. I agree with the others though Cape May Cafe is a much more relaxed atmosphere. You are less rushed and it tends to be a lot quieter which we find results in a much more enjoyable experience. We stay at Yacht Club so we have come to skip Chef Mickeys in favor of Cape May Cafe as it is a short walk away. As for they surrounding area I don't think you would find anymore to do at Contemporary than the area around Crescent Lake, so I wouldn't let that play too much into the decision. That being said if you are going to walk the area and think the Boardwalk area is a mini Disney Springs you will be disappointed. Ultimately though if you go to Contemporary or Boardwalk the activities after the meal are going to be fairly comparable.

I would say Cape May if you want a more relaxed setting. Chef Mickey's is one of my favorites though as well but is louder and more crowded. Cape May has really good made to order crepes for breakfast and its neat to see the characters in their beach gear! Both are good options just different.
