Read this article on another site, and thought everyone on here might like it.

In short it is a way to feel what is happening in VR. Reminds me of the breathing of the banshee in FOP but turned up to 11. I assume it would be at least a decade until we see something like this in the parks. But I would love to hear what everyone thinks about how it might be used.

After doing the Void Star Wars experience at Disney Springs, I imagine that VR will get into the parks soon. Disney is an investor in the Void, so it might first be through their experiences. However, the ability to either quickly spin a generic space into a new adventure, or have multiple different adventures available at once seems very promising. The load/unload time is such that you don't get a huge amount of throughput relative to a ride.

They partnered with Nvidia for a star wars ride.. Nvidia for the not well kept up with tech is the heavy hitter in graphics and deep learning gpus. Stuff they can do is spectacular, so I would not doubt VR of some sort is coming in the near term.

Also, define VR, most people think of a headset, some people think of a 'scene'. What you mention is more a flight sim on steroids.

Present day, VR stinks, it is a novelty if anything. The cables required, the immersion is there, but the gfx is still shaky, among other notable marks against it.

Right now, the flight sims are hot, and good tech driving them. If Disney plays it right, they could actually build a flight deck style setup for a ride, do all the snazzy gfx, like 3d digital maps, etc, you'd be more living in the VR, vs wearing it.

Until headsets become untethered, and the gfx becomes lifelike, all on the far horizon also, then maybe they will be able to incorporate it into a ride.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't go that route for the guardians of the galaxy ride. Mission mars pods are small, and they move people through like crazy.
