Ahh, nice - it's that time of year again.

I think I'm rapidly approaching the point where I'm going to upgrade my aging 1D Mark IIn to a 5D Mark III. I've got a bag full of L lenses that sit unused since switching to Leica in 2008...

yikes!

I've used them all but never purchased myself... I prefer the M6, I'm a fully mechanical guy myself. Isn't the M7 battery dependent for it's shutter?
Heh. I started with a Zeiss Ikon, which got me hooked on rangefinders again (after a looong SLR-based absence). Then ended up with an M8. Upgraded to M9, picked up an M7. Now selling M8. LOL.

The M7 does have a meter, and yes - is mostly battery dependent with its new electronically-controlled shutter... However 1/60 and 1/125 are still mechanical, so if the battery dies you're still shooting. I went the M7 route because I'm a huge aperture priority shooter - it was a no-brainer.

Hard to pick the ZI vs. M7; both have their plusses and minuses. The ZI actually was recently discontinued.
