Canadians - Wire Money?

OK, just had an offer accepted by a seller for a DVC resale through The Timeshare Store. (So far they have been great and I would recommend them as Robert has answered any question I had quickly)

Now to proceed I have to wire a cash deposit to the Timeshare's bank account. When I bought my house the lawyer took care of all money transfers so this is new to me.

Maybe a stupid question but how do I go about doing this?

I have a US account at my bank in Canada with enough US funds in it right now for the purchase. Do I just go into the bank and give them the account number that I want the US money transfered too?

I am out of town Wednewsday and Thursday and of course with Easter weekend the banks are closed Friday and Monday (I think) so it I can't do the transfer until early next week anyway. If I can do it from my Canadian Bank that would be great.

What have others from Canada done? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Not a problem, any bank any where can transfer funds to a specific account anywhere else in the world with an annotation that the transfer is from you for the specific purpose you have. You'll receive a detailed receipt that will indicate the successful transfer.

Gary,

As Monty said - no problems. I'm in Canada and wired the money from the Royal Bank. Didn't take long at all. Check regarding fees though. It may be cheaper to get a bank draft and pay to Fedex it, depending on what type of account you have at the bank.

Just don't consider doing it via credit card. They charge an additional 1.5% on the exchange.

Welcome home!

Thanks Rick,

I am heading to the bank tomorrow morning and will see what works best. The $75 fee that the Time Share Store's Bank charges to receive a wire transfer kind of caught my attention.

Are there any DVC members on here who are not from Ontario? Ontario has different (better) rules for dealing with timeshare purchase than the other 9 provinces and 3 territories. I know that I can purchase my membership when I go back to WDW in December, but I just wondered if any DVC owners from other provinces might have info or tips.

Hi there, I am not from Ontario either and I called today for some info on DVC and they said they legally are not even allowed to send me any info on the subject. They could not even send me the DVC DVD. I am not sure where you are from but were they able to send you anything Dreamscometrue? They said we can purchase a Disney Vacation Club Membership when we come down to Florida but thats all they can do. Thats quite hard to do if you can not plan for it in anyway.

That really is an inconvenince. I guess living in Ontario has its advantages if your a DVC lover. We have bought four times over the phone. I can;t imageine having the urge to buy and not being able to pick up the phone and do so.

I found out that the DVC (along with many other vacation clubs and timeshare companies) are not registered, or not allowed to (?), in any provinces except Ontario. I had the same phone response as you when we phoned the DVC last year. We did the DVC tour while at WDW last month and upon our return home, decided to purchase. Unfortunately, we did the tour at the end of our trip and had to come home to arrange financing at our bank (since we could get a lower rate than DVC rate). Now, we have to wait to go back at Christmas to join. I spoke with other DVC members in our city and they said that they had to be in the state of Florida to join. That's what we were told also.

Although you would want to do the DVC tour while at WDW, you can get info on your computer to help you decide before you go on your trip. As a result, you could have financing in place in the event that you decide to become members. Do a DVC search and you can read info from several sites. Always consider that info might be outdated a bit or inaccurate, so check several sources. Also, you an go on the DVC website and get a lot of information. This is the site I would start with.

We can't wait to become members of the AKL Villas later this year. Good luck with your research.

You know with the point price increase coming up you might want to consider flying down to Florida to sign the papers. I am sure your agent would be willing to make arrangements to have you picked up at the airport.

The cost of the flight and over night accomdations might be less than the point increase.
