Can you use the DVC dining discount to pay for an entire party?

I did search and found a similar thread on this topic, but it was more about having other people use your card in your place. The question is pretty direct - if I have a party of 10 people and I am the only DVC card carrying person, am I allowed to pay for the entire party/meal and the dining discount applies to the entire check, or are they super weird and will only apply the discount to my entrée?

Figure a new thread with a clear subject title can help someone in the future. Thank you!

I think there’s a limit to the number of people, but my understanding is yes, you can apply the discount to the whole party. I think technically you have to pay the whole bill.

Is member defined by person or by couple/dvc card number? I would think my wife and myself would get cards each, making two 'members', but not sure how they define it.
Member is the card holder. Like I said we have 2 cards in our family and we're pretty much always together if in a larger group.

But we have had some split it to 2 bills for 4 max each. Some just do one bill with discount for all. Only once did they say nope and only 4 people.

If you buy direct and are both on the deed then you will each have a “blue card”. Technically only a blue card gets the discounts but that can be variable.

However with it going digital it seems it will be more clear cut, there is a flag on MDE to show eligibility for discounts, which is Y or N.

Currently there is an issue where those who bought resale but before restrictions were added have that flag set to N, which is being worked on - according to Member Services. But it means that those members are being denied discounts without having to prove their membership with their downloaded digital blue card. This suggests they will be clamping down on those eligible for dining and shopping discounts.

I never knew it was Member and 3 guests. My wife and I are both on the contract, so technically we are both members. However, whenever we ate with our 3 kids (a total of 5 of us) I just always gave the server my blue card and they applied the discount. It was pretty clear we were a family, even though our kids are older (23, 20, 16). But they never asked for proof that my wife and I were both members, they just applied the discount to everybody. We have not been back to WDW since the blue cards went digital, so it may be different now.

With the cards being digital, does that mean the card can only be on one account and my wife wouldn't be able to have her own card unless she logged in using my credentials?

She has to have her own login to the DVC website if she is also an owner. Both my DW and I have logins, and we both have the digital card in our Apple wallets showing both our DVC and APs.

Im going to ask a probably stupid, noobish question: If we plan to buy one direct contract as a couple, are we both owners, or just the primary on the deed?

No question is ever stupid! :) Both of your names have to be on the deed. It doesn't matter who the primary is. You will both get logins to the DVC site, and can both have digital cards.

Leads me back to the confusing question around dining discounts and seem to get multiple answers:

Technically speaking, my wife and I are two members. Does that mean each of us can technically bring 3 guests each, for a max party of 8, to get the dining discount applied to everyone? Or, are they going to look at the membership number and tell me we can only use one?

It comes down to verbiage - is it member + 3 guests or membership number + 3 guests?

AFAIK, you should each be allowed +3 as you are both members.

We had a party of 17 (including two babies) and had no problem applying our DVC discount to the whole party. 5 of us are DVC members. All listed on the same deed. My mom added me and my sisters to the deed a few years ago. They did not ask to see all they cards.

Technically yes. We were denied once in all the years of doing it. Party of 8. Did offer it on the most expensive meals first.

Did you have 2 member cards? Since the website states "Member", and 2 of you are members, then it should work for up to 8. If you did have 2 members with cards, then that CM was wrong about the policy.

About Member Dining Discounts:
Discount is off the regular price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, excluding tax and gratuity, and is valid for the Member and up to 3 Guests, unless otherwise noted. Special events and packages excluded.

Yes we do. We were still denied. I know the rules but sometimes it's not worth fighting. Saying it only to have people prepared. How much one wants to fight is up to them.

At the very least, we would let the manager know that the server needs some additional training, but in the nicest way possible.

Again wasn't worth the fight. They had been ultra accommodating for my weirdo allergy. It wasn't a huge deal. Also sometimes when dealing with ESL, nuances are not there. Not insulting ESL either as my spouse's first language wasn't English either nor was half of the party.
