Can you give me some info about canceling reservations?

I am not sure that I will need to do this, but I think it is a distinct possibility. What are the rules for canceling a room and ticket package reservation? For a room only reservation? Is there a timeframe for each? Will I lose the money already put down for deposit?

And any other info I should know would be appreciated.

For a room only reservation it's at least 5 days before arrival. I haven't cancelled a whole trip but something came up and we had to go cancel the first day of our trip. I called a week out and cancelled the first day and it was very simple. I had paid the room and they credited it back to card I had used. Can't tell you about packages because we are passholders so we just book a room. Other have done it and there is a cut off which is more though. They'll chime in shortly.

If you cancel the trip, you will lose the 200.00 deposit. It would be better to call and reschedule for a later date, and then call before THAT 45 day window and cancel for a refund. I know this doesn't sound right to do, but I lost my deposit when my husband was hospitalized, and someone else on this site told me that I should have just rescheduled and then canceled. And who know, maybe you won't have to cancel the future date....

If you cancel farther out than 45 days, you get the $200. If you cancel between 44-30 days then you get $100 back. Less than 30 days is supposed to be zero back. However, I've read many stories saying that Disney refunded the deposit because they'd rather keep you happy than tick you off.

Package deal are you get everything back outside the 45 days. Then its a different amount they keep depending on the days out you still are. Room only you get it all back up to 5 days before your check in date. Like others have said you can change your dates to further out and then if you have to cancel do so before that 45 day period.

They changed this 2 years ago I believe. Any cancel within 45 days for a MYW package you lose the full $200 now.

We found one unexpected benefit of cancelling a trip we had booked: we started getting PIN codes. We had never received them before, but started getting them soon after. I doubt it was a coincidence.

We haven't stayed or booked an on site hotel in years and for some reason the last 2 years we literally get 2 or 3 pins a year now! I actually just booked a trip for the first time getting to use a pin code!

I have cancelled two trips, one for health reason, the other because things changed at work. We only book room only but the one we cancelled for health reasons was literally the day before we were to be there and they refunded the entire deposit. The other time we had to cancel we were months from going and the refund was a no brainer. Packages scare me, if something were to come up and I needed to cancel and needed the money back I would be just sick to lose that kind of money, 200 is a lot to give up!

As for the PIN codes, we used to get them all the time and now have not had a good one in a couple of years. I have no idea if there is any reason people get them, I wish I would get another good room discount one tho!

Hmmmm, I am going to have to take a look at all this. At this point, I am outside the 45 day mark. But that also doesn't mean even if I don't have to cancel now that it will not happen inside that date. I am on a roller coaster with this. I think all is good and this trip will happen, and then something happens and I think not.
