I have a video right now and it is about 500 mg, its an AVI file, Im pretty sure that when I convert it to Mpeg it will be to big to fit on a disk. So can I split the video in half? I use Roxio to burn.

Personally i would use after FX or premiere to split it..but...(as you can guess)...its not free....
splitting video is EASY but i really dont know of any programs that are free that can do it...there are however..cheap alternatives...look for "vegas video"...
I'm not an expert, but if you convert the video to an mpeg with the proper codec (a divx codec), you actually might even reduce the file size to something smaller than the original avi file. I have a program called Magix Video Delux. you can go to www.magix.com to check it out. I use it when I want to simply convert videos. It takes a little getting used to to play with some of the settings, but it only cost me $25 or so to get it. Adobe Premier, obviously, is a whole lot more. I just recently bought it about a month or so ago. Its an awesome program for creatoing videos, but I think if you are just going to use it to convert videos, I would go with the cheaper route like Now said.
