Can I keep my ADRs if I cancel my MYW reservation?

Posted this question under the free dining rumor, but I didn't get an answer so I thought I'd try here...

If I cancel my existing MYW reservation (to rebook completely with my new Disney Visa if Free Dining is offered earlier for those folks :) ), will my dining ADRs that I already have be automatically cancelled as well? They asked me for my MYW confirmation number when I booked them all, so I'm confused as to whether or not they are actually tied together causing my ADRs to go away if the MYW reservation goes away.

Resort reservations are independent of ADRs [except when you call around 180 days out]. Cancelling or changing your reservations will not change or cancel your ADRs.

But.. once you've changed everything, it wouldn't hurt to call and confirm all your ADRs are still there [computers at Disey aren't the most reliable...].

I've been told by numerous CM's that the dining system and the room/package system are two completely separate systems that don't talk to each other, so if you cancel your room/package, the ADR's do not automatically cancel.

Last year I had all of my ADRs made and had the dining plan. I cancelled my reservation and rebooked for a discount and all of my reservations for dining were ok. That was a big concern of mine as well. The two systems are completely separate.

I feel better now. Thanks :)

On a related note - I've read that when you check into your resort, you can get the front desk to print a list of your ADRs. If your ADRs are not linked to your resort reservation, how do they do this? Do they ask you for the phone number you associated with all of the reservations, do it by your name, or use some other magic?

I think the ADRs are stored by name as when we checked in on the last trip we asked for the same and one was missing, fortuneatley I had the reservation number and they found it, but it did not show orginally because they had mis-spelled our name.

If the CM on the phone asked for your reservation number, then they "can" key it into the ADR. ADR's have a million fields for data - someone got data happy - but most are unused or non-essential.

As for canceling ADR's when you drop a ressie - if you're abusing the 180+10 policy (i'm not even sure if that's even used anymore) one could worry about a spot check removing your ressies. Otherwise, nope, they're not linked. Moreso, a CM needs a ressie number to make a reservation in that +10 period and is supposed to verify it. If they happen to pull up all the ressies for Cindy's on a certain day and assure all the ressie numbers are valid, that's where the trouble would come in.

I think they put a "reference number" on all of your ADRs so that they can all be pulled up at one time with that number. That's why the automated system asks for your res# *or* home phone number when you call (I always give my phone #). Then later at the hotel, you just give that number to the CM and they'll pull up all ADRs with that number as the reference number.

The number you punch-in just goes to the software phone system. It can make the computer systems pop up your ressie automaticly, but rarely does. For dining it can just display it for the CM to reference, but that rarely actually happens.

Your phone number is actually the prefereed reference number. At resorts, it's commonly just pulled up with ease based on the resort and your last name, or your phone number. Rarely do all ressie have the right confirmation number for a resort in them.

Think of it this way -- you don't even need resort reservations to make ADRs!!!

Off-site guests can make ADRs. Orlando locals can make ADRs. People making a pit stop between Key West and Tampa can make ADRs.

They are NOT tied in to reservations. They can have ACCESS to separate databases even though those databases aren't inextricably tied together.

This is very true of Dine reservations in DRS, but resort reservations in Dreams are much more likely to pop up when a res number is entered into the phone system. Which in the long run doesn't save much time since 496 points of verification have to be repeated anyway...

Make sure that you call approx. 1-2 weeks out from your arrival date to confirm your reservations. Last year we had changed a few around and when I called a couple of weeks out, some of the ones I had cancelled hadn't really been cancelled. It looked like we were literally eating all over the world on some nights. Luckily I got a really great CM and he went over the entire list and straightened it out. Thus, freeing up some prime restaraunts for others.

A Helpful Hint...

When booking any Dine Reservation, you will always be asked for your home phone number. Please be sure to always give the same number every time. Also if there are others in your same party making dine reservations, again pick a single phone number to be used by everyone in your party. This number is used as a back up reference number if you ever forget your confirmation number, both by Disney Dining and by the restaurants themselves. It is very rarely if ever called (only if the reservation cannot be honored will you be contacted.) As names are rarely alpha verified for dining reservations, spelling mistakes are common. That is why giving the same home phone number for all dine reservations is very important.

You can request a print out of all your Dine and Recreation reservations upon arrival from the Lobby Concierge Desk by providing your phone number. The list will print out in chronological order and it is free upon request.
