My main thing I wanna check off when I apply for the cp is transportation. I would love to be a monorail driver, but can students who do the college program be monorail drivers?

They'll say that you can, but I've never heard of one actually getting a chance to do it. CP'ers usually ends up on the boats based on the reports from interviews I've read.

From what I understand, the training to be a monorail pilot takes awhile to complete.

I can understand Disney not wanting to spend the time and effort on training a new driver who would only be with the company for a limited time.

Actually, a friend of mine was trained on the CP to become a monorail pilot. He was tellin me that on the second or third day in his location, they put him at the controls cause it's aparently not that hard. That was the last day he drove it for about a month. That entire time was spent learning platform and saftey procedures. Apparently very few CPs (a handful) are sent to monorail.

Now that I'm thinking about it, while I was in doing a hearing test for Jungle Cruise, there was a girl CP who was at Health Services for a vision test for monorail.

So yes, it's possible.

One of the guys that I talked to before going down for my CP ended up being a Monorail Pilot. We did the Spring program, so only down there for 4 months. I know there were also a few more CPs who were pilots too that I'd talk to sometimes.

I applied for Transportation with this very hope but unfortunately I got Operations instead. Nonetheless, there was a risk at being a TTC platform CM or something ghastly like that, so hopefully it works out better for me.

I just started my CP on August 2 with a transportation role. Like everyone else i was hoping for the monorails, but I am SO glad i did not get them. I am now training to be a Friendship Boat Captain (awesome costumes) which seems to be one of the best jobs at disney world. The monorail pilots only get to drive 1/4 of the time they are working, at most. The training takes a while and most of the time you are stuck on the platforms which would get old very quickly. Sure it would be cool to be a monorail pilot in front of the train when you have a small family up there with you that you can talk to, BUT, on the Friendships you have an entire boat of 100 people that you can talk to and entertain. I'm already learning the freedom of this job because i can ask trivia questions, tell jokes, history about disney, and even have some guests come to the front of the boat and give them a chance to talk.

Some of my other assignments include handling the guests with wheelchairs viewing areas for Illuminations at Epcot, and park clearing at night, which is cool because you get to act as security.

Our boats operate in the Lagoon at the world showcase, AND the Gateway which runs between Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios, stopping at resorts along the way.

So for those of you hoping for the monorails, i hope that the Friendships now seem a little more interesting! You can IM me if you would like to talk more about it!

Thank You- I have wondered why so many are interested in being monorail drivers. Sure, it might but fun for a couple of trips but I'd think it'd get old really fast. A boat job would always change with weather and passangers, plus you get to be outside.

I agree completely. Plus, driving boats is probably a lot more fun..... (not that I'm biased).

MBrantleyIUP, have fun with FBoats. From what I've heard from friends over there, it's definetly one of the better jobs at Walt Disney World.

Yes, CP's can be 'rail pilots

I'm a seasonal Cast Member who works 1-2 shifts per week at a monorail pilot. It took me (working Sat and Sun) 3.5 months to pass pilot checkout. CP's normally do it in 3-4 weeks as they work full time There is a LOT more to being a pilot than I ever thought. Many flunk checkout, many transfer out when they find out how much you have to study. 1" thick notebook of technical stuff to know. You pilot about 1/3 of your shift. It is HARD to stay focused more than an hour or so, radio is going all the time and you have to pick up when you're being called, you cannot speed AT ALL or the train will shut down, etc., etc. Would be happy to give more info to anyone.
