I need some advice and suggestions on what camera to buy for my trip down to disney next summer. I have two great nikon SLR cameras that l bought when l photograph weddings, graduations, etc. But i'm looking to get a small palm camcorder that records on tape/disk and yet is able to take digital stills and not eat my wallet to badly. I'd hate to tie myself and others up at security while they inspect my camera, bags, etc. Besides by the end of the day i'll wish l never brought so much stuff. Yet be small enough to carry at the parks (mainly MK)and not weigh a ton by the end of the day,yet be able to film (tape) on most rides with a good sound and picture quality and still be able to take stills too. I know their new on the market and from reading threads most people had great sucess capturing their disney vacations and reliving them till there next visit.Any and all help in this process is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all helping in this matter. God Bless :)

We have a Sony DCR-HC40. My husband works for Ritz Camera part-time and is a photgrapher on the side. He says that you will not get "camera quality" stills with any digital camcorder,so don't base your choice on that one requirement. You are looking at a price point of about $500 or less. I love ours. It is small and fits in my little hands. We looked a long time at almost every recorder that has come out in the past year and this was the one we kept coming back to. My husband also recommends to stay away from Canons. Not much bang for your buck. Good luck with your choice. If you have any other questions please feel free to email or PM me and we would be happy to try and help!

My 2 cents. You pay for what you get for so research the camcorder/camera combo. About 2-3 years ago I bought a JVC DVM75U cam/camera and I loved it. It was under a pound, and very small. The tapes are MiniDV and the camera was digital using a 8 meg SD memory stick. The camcorder is excellent but the camera was not all that good, it was my first digital camera, it's about 1 meg in resolution.

First of all, I can only take about 45 pictures at high quality and 250 at low quality. I purchased a 256 meg SD memory stick and that did the trick (550 high quality or 800 pics at low). You'll also need another battery because the flash and using the small LCD screen uses a lot of power. I bought it for Disney vacations and at that time it was $899 with extra battery. They have gone down in price since two years ago.

I have now bought a Canon S400 (4 meg), that was 1.5 years ago and since then I have not used the camera portion of the camcorder. I bought a small Disney camera bag that fits both cam and camera in a little bag. Both devices are small and light weight, the camera fits in my pocket or in the front pouch of the camcorder bag, which is the size of a normal SLR camera bag.

I'm sure you'll get other posts. I suggest getting a digital camera. You can use this site, www.dpchallenge.com select "Learn" from the top and "Camera" you can research and see the pics from other users.

Good luck.
