Camera straps (DSLR)

I've used various styles and brands over the years. Optech is now my go to strap. I can leave a tripod quick release plate on the camera and it's long enough to use messenger style.

I've been looking at different options for carrying my new DSLR at WDW this November and I really like that RS-4.

Good info!

I've been using the RS-4 since it came out. The only issue I ever had was in the early days the camera connector was a little funky but that's fixed with the current one and it works great.

How do you find the tripod socket mount for the strap? Any problems or concerns about it coming detached?

That was the problem with the original version of that connector I referred to earlier; it was very difficult to manage and keep tightly connected. The new one includes a built-in rubber gasket that hold it in place solidly and tightly. I have no problems at all with the current version of the connector.

Don, have you had any troubles with the "length adjustment" coming undone? I fiddled with a black rapid in a store once and as I put downward pressure on my camera, that adjustment let loose and the strap just slipped into 2 halves. Scared me enough that I didn't purchase.

Clearly I didnt have it done up properly but Ive since read complaints about how easy it is for that adjuster to come undone.

I'm presently using an Optech but would prefer something across the body like the Black Rapid.

I've seen reports of that over the last year or so but it's just never been an issue for me at all since I got it.

I've been using Upstraps with Kevlar for a few years now. They have their own problems like snagging in-between the car seats but you don't have to keep pulling the strap up. http://www.upstrap-pro.com/

I've seen a lot of good reviews on this one, but I'm struggling to see it's stand-out feature. Is it basically the amount of grip it has on your shoulder?

I really like the idea of the Black Rapid straps. I know they are coming out with a fastener so you can still leave a quick release plate attached. Has anyone tried to make their own or have found one someplace else?

Also, can you use the Black Rapid strap with a backpack, or will it get stuck?

I have used my BR Strap with a plate. I had to remove one of the rubber grommets. I was concerned about attempting it. It has never come loose at all. I also have a safety cord on one of the rings where the original strap attaches. In case the screw comes off, the camera will fall and that safety strap is a last resort savior. Even if it fails, it will give me another couple of seconds to catch it.

As for a backpack, as long as the BR is over the backpack straps, you will have no issue.

How do you like your Op/Tech? I'm trying to decide between that and a Black Rapid. With the Op/Tech you can get a normal neck strap and a cross-body attachment (or visa versa), essentially giving you two straps, for less $$ than the Black Rapid.
