Calling all Fort Wilderness Experts!

When I was little my grandparents used to take me camping all the time and I loved it. Every spring break their church group would make a week long trip to Fort Wilderness and of course this was the highlight of my year.

My fiance; Sara and I have been going to WDW for years together and always stay at her grandparents townhouse which is about 7 mins. from the parks. We love staying at the townhouse as it's free and totaly decked out in Disney decorations.

Now here's the deal. Ever since we spent a day exploring Fort Wilderness together we have really wanted to start staying there. I'm just looking for any advice some of you Fort Wilderness veterans may have for me. We would be staying in a tent and probably only do quick weekend trips. What are the must haves for a quick, fun, Fort Wilderness extravaganza?!?!?!?!

OOHHH!!! There is so much to do in FW, you will have a complete blast!! :sohappy:

Let's see...........tent camping............definitely a tent :D . With the season getting close to an end (at least as far as stores are concerned :veryconfu ), you can find some great deals on tents. I would want a 2 room tent.......put air mattresses in the back room and use the front room to get changed. If your funds allow, I'd look into one of those screened in dining tents. It will add to your living space. I'd also keep a large cooler in the dining tent (or front room of the regular tent) for ice, water, some snacks (preferably smoosh-proof ones), maybe some bottled drinks, like iced tea or oj). You can also find those chairs that fold up into carry bags. You'll want at least 2 of them. Don't forget the citronella candles too. ;) FW is really good about treating for bugs, but there is always the chance.........................We were there in 2002 and the morning after a horrible rain storm, we woke up in the camper to the sound of BUZZING!! The rain stirred up all the mosquitos from the canal that we were camping in front of! They used us as an "All you can eat" buffet!!

:D Oh, forgot about the laterns and flashlights. With the electric outlet right there, rechargable ones will be a snap to use. :)

I don't know if you'll be doing any cooking while you are there, but if you get the dining canopy, you can set up a table and maybe set up a crock pot and let dinner cook while you're at the parks. To save money, you could bring those little boxes of cereal from home, then grab milk at the trading posts. We like that Parlament milk (you can keep it without refrigeration, just chill it before you use it) so we'd bring that with us. Powdered milk would work too.

Don't forget clothes line if you need to hang out wet towels after you shower or swim.

If you're staying in a preferred loop, you can bring along a small tv and some cable to connect to the outlet. You could fall asleep listening to the "Resort TV" channel. :snore: I preferred having the cable reception to keep an eye on the Weather channel too. Makes deciding what to wear to the parks much easier.

Tents have really come a long way since our 10 x 13 2 room tent (we got a travel trailer in 1999). I saw one on sale at Target last week. It was larger than the one we had, also had the 2 rooms, but had lighting already 'attached' to the inside of the tent. All you needed to do is plug the "power port" in to a receptable. Heck, it even had a remote control so you could turn you lights on while you were walking back to your campsite!! :D
