We are thinking of the cabins for 2014. My kids will be 9,almost 11 and 12 at the time.. I know the campground is big but that's ok.. we wont be renting a golf cart ( $$$)... give me the good the bad and the ugly please!

Cabins will be a great size for your family. The kitchen is full size and you can have groceries ordered. Bring your bikes or you can rent them to get around faster. I agree with the no golf carts. You can park 2 cars right in front of your cabin. You also have a grill outside. Transportation is not as bad as people say. It's a nice boat ride to MK or the bus to the other parks. Again, if everyone rides bikes you can be to either the boat or bus in less than 10 minutes. Kids can enjoy the 2 pools, campfire, the best outdoor movies in all WDW, canoeing, fishing, volleyball, basketball courts, tether ball, horseback riding, carriage rides, wagon rides. There are 2 stores if you need any supplies. Quick 15-20 minute ride to WL if you care to enjoy their restaurants. You can also use WL pools. Hoop dee do is lots of fun. Can't say enough good things about it. Been going for 30 years!

As long as grandma doesn't mind sleeping with one of the kids there's no problem. There's a queen bed, 2 bunks and a Murphy bed. Also a loveseat.

Heading for the great escape.
Love the resort, transport is indeed simple to use. Never had a buggy or a bike, used the buses or Shank's Pony, not too difficult even in summer but we had no grandparents. Pools are basic but fun. We stayed in the 2300 loop handy for bus pool laundry and only a short hike to the shop.

We only stayed in a cabin one night after our tent was destroyed but they were AWESOME. I'd stay in a cabin again before I did anything like club level at the contemporary again...I didn't use it but every room had wifi, bluray player, and nicer tvs than I've seen when I stayed at a lot of the deluxe. The shower is just as big AND you have a kitchen. You can take your leftovers back if you go out for dinner and have some late night munchies. I also found the AC worked better than at most results but I'll assume it's cause every cabin has it's own unit. Most importantly, it's QUIET and very relaxing as a result.

Haven't stayed there myself but I had friends stay in the cabins. They loved them and will stay there again.

Loved the cabins, I didn't think I ever would but it surprised the heck outta me. As long as people are fine sleeping together, youll be fine. The only downside was not having a great pool area, but other than that I loved it. Everything is quick to get to using their transportation and taking the boats was so much fun. Plus your right next to all the recreation stuff, if you have one day to spend at the resorts. They have so much to do.

We have not stayed at the cabins but have been to the campground. If your kids like to be outside they will love, love, love it! There is so much to do at FWC. There are two pool complexes, one is at that meadows trading post. It is the main pool with a slide, hot tub, and there is a toddler splash playing area. There are tennis courts, BB hoops galore, tetherball, archery lessons, canoe & bike rentals, boat rentals for bay lake, playground areas, beach, nightly campfire and movie, etc. There is a quiet pool area with a spa over by the cabin loops. Nothing fancy, just a square pool but nice. The internal buses have different colored routes and run from the marina (or Settlement area) to the cabin loops and on to the Outpost. There are nice walking trails that go to the different areas so you won't have to walk in the roads if you want to just walk to the Meadows area. Each cabin has their own driveway for parking and a deck with a grill. If you haven't already done so, Allears.net has a wonderful area under accommodations where they review and photos of all the resorts. They have extensive info on FWC with a slide show that give a really nice overview of the cabins. Check it out. Have a very wonderful trip!

I enjoyed the Cabins. There are 5 of us and it's like having your own little house at Disney. We drive so the wife and I went Grocery shopping at Publix. I grilled steak and vegetables nightly. The cart is great if you can swing the expense. It will maximize you experience. Typically, you will have to take a bus, to catch a bus without a cart.

We went at christmas time so we would ride our cart and sight see. Lots of campers decorated with lights. The campground is a all around great atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly. We own our own travel trailer now so that's how we roll!!

We stayed in the Cabins last summer and I agree, for the price, it's totally worth it for the peace and privacy. I have RA among other things so even though I may not be elderly, I sure feel like it most days so having stayed in the cabins quite a few years ago, I knew I couldn't physically do that much walking before I even made it to a park so the cart rental was inevitable. But thanks to fellow members here, who are seasoned FW vacationers, who recommended renting a cart from Kenny at Tee Time Cart Rental. It was a fraction of the price and he's got much nicer and faster carts that also have full pull/zip down rain covers. He dropped it off the day we arrived and picked it back up the morning we left. It was so great after a long day on your feet (mine in particular) to get off the bus or ferry & take a relaxing cart ride around the grounds. It was also extremely useful to go back & forth to the laundry facilities as well as the pool with 3 kids plus towels.
The only thing FW is sorely lacking, and it's a big thing because we almost changed our reservations because of it, is that they have no food court. Just the one restaurant and the dinner show. And for a campground/family environment to they absolutely need to have a food court like POR, CB, etc. esp when they have people sticking around to do more of the activities offered there. I know some like to cook or grill, but I'd bet for a lot of people, that's the last thing they want to do on vacation. I know I don't  unless it's just nuking leftovers.
Sorry, I got carried away! I guess I threw in just a wee bit more than 2¢! :cat:

When we went we had 6 adults in the cabin and it was fine. The only thing I remember was sitting on the buses longer because there were a lot of stops (we were the first stop, so we had to sit on the bus longer to get to the park but were the first off on the way back). We didn't have a cart, and the walk to the bus stop was 10 minutes tops. It's totally worth it. I enjoyed staying at the cabins when we went.

If your any kind of camping family you'll enjoy them. The kitchen was great. I thought having only 1 bath would be a problem but it never was. To be honest I wouldn't stay there again without a golf cart. After walking in the parks all day then riding 2 busses or a boat then a bus to get back to the cabin wasn't ideal. Also the hike to the pool was a bit long, my son wanted to go there every afternoon and by the time we got there I was to tired to swim from all the walking in the parks then the walk to the pool. If you don't think that will bother you then I would definately try them.
