Okay.. the last time we were at WDW.. almost a year ago.. we got into a discussion about buying points to stay at a DVC hotel. and that we could do just that even though we were not DVC members.. some one give me at least the first couple of steps.. ( asking for help is always the first step in a program).. can this be as cheap as getting our hotel from Disney, with say a coupon? we are looking in early December.. I know how to help and offer to help WDW first timers.. but for this one. I am trying to gain knowledge and they say knowledge is power.. this is a new twist on an many time trip for me..

I'm confused on what you're exactly looking for. Are you wanting to BUY a DVC contract, so that you can own points at a DVC Resort? Or are you wanting to RENT points from an existing DVC member for a one-time trip?

Getting something for this December is going to be very difficult, depending on which resort and room type you want.

If you're looking to RENT points, you should visit one of the broker sites like David's DVC Rental or DVC Rental Store. Punch those into Google and you'll find exactly what you need.

If you're looking to BUY, there's a lot more that goes into it, including a significant assessment of your personal situation.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
I want to RENT POINTS. ( good to know the term) for a ONE TIME TRIP..
You can do a cash reservation for DVC rooms through Disney Reservations as well. You do not have to rent points but renting will probably be cheaper even if there is a room discount offered for the category of room you want. :)
Check out David's if you want to rent. Many people use his site. :)

It'll be cheaper but a bit more involved. I've done it once and don't find it to be worth the headaches if there's a decent room offer available.

^^^ Agree! We just booked those through Disney directly with a room discount before we finally joined DVC in 2013. :)

The reputable renting brokers post the costs right on their website. Both of the sites mentioned have the per point costs posted (usually around $14-16 per point). They may have not been able to give you an exact price because they don't know if they will have points to rent, or perhaps you didn't specify a resort/room type.

Early December is low points season and therefore a very popular time for DVC resorts. Likely the only thing available would be SSR or OKW. DVC is best planned far in advance. David's also requires a deposit to search for a reservation for you. I've never used them myself but my sister has with great results. She got a grand villa over xmas week.

Who did you call? If you go to any of the DVC point rental sites, they'll spell out everything right on their site. Should be no phone calls to people who won't give prices. That sounds like you talked to someone illegitimate.
