Buying a Digital SLR near the World Help!

Hello!

So, we are in the World and our camera is dead. Totally not functioning. @NowInc, @PhotoDave219, and @ddbowdoin you have all heard of my issues - which have now reached epic proportions. Our new Nikon D5200 has a shutter malfunction. Spoke with 47th Street PHoto and Nikon for about an hour and a half today and there is no way to fix it, so I am going to be returning it for a refund.

BUT, that leaves us at DW with just iPhones for cameras. I can't exist that way. So, I'm looking for any advice on where to buy a new digital SLR in the area and perhaps even what to buy as my feelings about NIkon right now are less than stellar. When it worked I really liked the D5200 so something similar would be great.

Ideas? Suggestions on where to buy locally?

Thanks.

Waiting to hear back from Kingdom Camera about renting the D7000 body for the rest of the trip and using my glass with it. LensPal doesn't appear to have D7000, but also looking at the D600 and D800. How big is the learning curve to move to the 600 or 800 from the 5200? Not that the curve was that big on the 5200, but...

If you have DX glass with you on this trip I would just stick with the D7000. You can still use some DX glass with the full frames but I personally would prefer FX glass to go with the D600/800.

Oops - I saw you already got the D600. Did you also get a full frame lens?

The D600 is a great camera, but you are going to lose a bit of its "quality" using crop lenses. The learning curve may take you a little bit..and then youre going to have the "I don't want to get rid of it" syndrome...lol.

Just going to go with our glass. I know we're losing some of what makes the D600 so nice (full frame), but I'd certainly like to see what it is like as I'm now in the market again. The next couple days won't have any great shooting opportunities, so I can learn my way around it doing basic things - don't even think there is anything that I might be enlarging from the next couple days.

Phew, I was away for the weekend... having something break on you sucks while on vacation really blows, renting def will be the best bet. Hope it all worked out!
