Buttons?

I keep reading about these buttons that guests can pick up at certain locations throughout Disney that indicate that guests are there for a special occasion. The trip my husband and I are planning is just three days after our anniversary, so we definitely would qualify for these buttons without stretching the truth, as I've heard others have done LOL...

But what's so special about them that people would want to lie? Are they worth the time to get them? My husband hasn't been since he was four... and then he was too short to ride anything, so all he remembers is long lines in the heat. I haven't been as an adult without my parents, so it'll be a new experience for me too.

Anyone here have experience with these?

If you attach a celebration to your reservation they usually have a button for you when you check-in. They have buttons for birthdays, anniversaries, first-time visits, etc. I think there are 7 in all. You can also get them at guest services at all the parks or at hotel check-in.

When you wear your button the CMs will comment on it all day and say congrats! I've been on my birthday and have gotten a free dessert at a TS restaurant. We were there for my daughter's 5th birthday and she got a special fastpass from a CM to use on any ride she wanted. If I remember correctly 2 or 3 people could go with her.

I've heard of other special things happening with people wearing these buttons as well. However, I think that more and more people wear these buttons so not as many "special" things happen any more.

They can be fun to wear and are great conversation starters and you never know what kind of pixie dust you will get!

How do you attach an occasion to a reservation? I've been playing on the website for weeks and have yet to stumble on that option. Thanks! :)

Just call and they will do it for you. I don't think you can do it after you already have the reservation made.

If you make any ADRs and you want to celebrate your anniversary make sure to add it to that too!

Her's a little tip. Go to a few different places to get a button. Some CMs will put a liitle more into it. I have gone a few times during my birthday and notice that some, who are a little more artistic, will fancy it up.

what is the advantage you ask? just a little more magic

my kids just came back from their 10th anniversary trip to disneyworld, and were so excited by the little things.

i had called and added it to their reservation so they didn't know
they were surprised when the check in CM handed them buttons and wished them a happy anniversary
then they were surprised to have 2 messages already waiting for them when they got to the room, both the CM and Mickey wishing them happy anniversary
all day long, every CM and many guests wished them the best
every meal something special was done for them
every dessert had special writing on the place, or an extra chocolate placard
they got certificates at some meals, confetti at others, champagne at one
many CMs came down the line and would call them out of line and say- oh look, I was looking for a party of 2, come on to the front
given special seating at shows
as my daughter said, it costs Disney nothing to teach each CM to make a big fuss over you, but they sure reap the rewards, they left with such a happy feeling, it was such a special memory

yup, it's the little things!

When we called to make our Chef Mickeys ressie, they asked if there were any special occasions. We celebrated it when we were there. They came out with confetti and a cupcake with a lit candle in it. Pictures with all the characters was fun, especially for a 28 year old!

We called the Disney line to book a spot at the kids club for my son one night while we are going to Victoria and Albert's. They didn't know it at the time but asked my husband during this trip if anything special was going on. He said it was our 10 year anniversary and our son's first visit. They said there will be special presents in our room when we arrive :) I can't wait to see what they give us!! I haven't told my son because I want him to be surprised. Definitely make them aware, they do treat you extra special if you are celebrating something :) I wish I knew about these pins 10 years ago. We went on our honeymoon there.

Very cool! I would love to hear what they end up doing :)

I just chatted with someone on Disney's website about the buttons, basically trying to circumvent making the phone call because I know my husband will find that cheesy lol... but the rep on the chat window did say that the people on the phone can help with photography, dining, and accommodations... interesting lol

We celebrated our ten year there last year and let me say that Disney went above and beyond! I actually cried during check-in at CS because they gave us free photopass, free champagne, buttons, a signed card from Minnie and Mickey and then when we got to our upgraded room there were balloons and a message on our phone from Mickey!! Did not expect any of that! Then at Sanaa we were treated to free dessert, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. It was amazing!

Wow... how cool! The guy I just spoke with did kind of imply that there was some kind of "special occasion photography" involved, but I wasn't sure what he meant by that. Not that I'm going to be mad if those things don't happen... I'm just too thrilled that my husband, who normally laughs at my enjoyment of Disney as it being just further evidence of me being a big kid at heart, actually was the one to suggest the trip to start with.

Sounds like I need to make a point to make that phone call first thing in the morning, where I can do it from work (in secret LOL) ;)

They do offer special occasion photo shoots, but you have to pay for them. He may have been referring to that, but they do love to help people celebrate! It was our first time staying on site and I was completely blown away. I just thought I was going to get cool buttons to wear at the park. Oh and I got a rose too :)

I'll make sure you update when we arrive and find out! My husband said they told him what would be in the room for our son but not for us. I told him not to tell me because I'd ruin the surprise. Sometimes my excitement gets the best of me.;)

I modified my reservation over the phone yesterday and the CM asked me if it was my first time or special occasion so it's very simple if you want to tie one in with your visit. I see no harm in saying it's your first time. Last year, we were asked at check in and first timers promptly got their buttons. Nothing special happened though.
