Why isn't it burning any longer? They have removed reference to it off of the Riverboat Spiel....What happened to it?

What house? I've never noticed the "house on fire" on Tom Sawyer Island. Where was/is it located? I guess it is true that you see something new EVERY time you go...... I LOVE that about WDW! You can never see it all.

Here's a picture

I think there was a lot more fire than that.

I think it was more on fire like this one from Disneyland a long time ago.

I think it had to do a lot with the retheaming of the native american camp. it use to be that the house had been attacked by them and they would come on and attack the train in the camp.

Right.

It was all about being politically correct.

They couldn't figure out how to work the burning house into the story line without offending someone.

Once the fuel prices came into play that was the last nail in the coffin.

So then, I guess we'll never see an old Wonderful World of Disney clip with the cowboys and indians? ...

...for the record, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what it was.

I hate 'PC'.

Call me WDW... I'll flip the bill for the gas if that's the issue!!!!

Well, I don't know if it's the price of fuel, since I doubt Disney uses actual gasoline to burn the cabin. It's probably some natural gas they use.

I remember that years ago, during the time of the dry season when the forest fires occur, they shut the cabin off.

I could swear that I've seen the cabin burining when you pass by the island on Big Thunder Mountain.

If it isn't burning now, and hasn't been for some time now, maybe it was some safety issue that Disney has yet to resolve, or they've decided it's just too big a risk to have it burning all together.

No, it wasn't because of theming since river pirates were attacking, not native americans. It was turned off for the sole reason all the other good stuff stops working ... money.

Not for nothing, since the Riverboat refurb, I haven't heard any "Riverboat spiel"...on my first visit, the captain introduced himself and that was that. On the second Riverboat visit, they announced some of the attractions you passed (Haunted Mansion on your left, Railway straight ahead) but didn't reference any of the old themeing items.

A little of subject.

Last time I was a wdw Tom Sawyer's Island was under refurb this was a few years ago. We actually saw an allegator swimming in the water. I tried to get a picture, but all you can see is a bump moving thru the water, but it was definetly an allegator!!!!!!!!

Yep. WDW has lots of diffrent creatures hiding in it's woods. I saw one by Splash Mountain once as well.

(You should see the Orcs behind Fantasyland!)

Along with the Skunk Ape, it's quite dangerous for a guest to travel off the beaten path !

Perhaps they could get it sponsored by a smoke alarm manufacturer. Or a Casino.

Or by the "Mothers Against Smoking in Bed"
