Building my own Haunted Mansion..

My wife and I are building a house, and have decided to go the HM route. We have everything pretty much set up, and just need to get some finalized site plans drawn up. We based everything off of the estimated visual footprint of the MK HM as it is seen from the queue line, and found a basic plan that was similar and took off from that. The basic plan was almost 90% exactly what we needed, and only had to change the size of a few rooms, the roof line, and add two additional fireplaces and the front tower section. We are also going to match the entry up, but it is not in the (quick and dirty) rendering that I am posting here. This is the basic rendering. Sorry if I put anyone off by not sharing any other details such as floorplans, etc. It is proprietary, ;-)

Thanks! We tried and tried to find out if anyone else had every done this, and would be interested in selling the plans, but it came down to us tackling it ourselves. It is almost like the house plans that we found were intended for this. It won't be an exact carbon copy, but close enough to be a definite conversation maker.

It would be very difficult to pull it off in a room by room basis, but we are going to theme everything to that era, and in the formal dining room we are going to do the place settings the same, and include the hidden Mickey just for decoration. I really want to create an amplified front door chime that says "Welcome! Foolish Mortals!" when the doorbell is rang.

If everything goes through as we hope, the house should be finished by no later than August or September of next year. We may wait until Feb or March to break ground.

I will be sure to post up everything as we go. We thought about the California HM, because the plan would have been much simpler, however our heart is in the MK, and the other HM would look like any other plantation style house. There is no mistaking what this will be.

I'm not one to covet, nor am I one given to envy, but I now covet your future home and envy your plans. I have often considered the possibility of doing what you are doing, and your plans only serve to remind me of how cool it would be. While I need to get my heart right regarding my feelings toward you, I do wish you the very best in what you are attempting to accomplish! :)

Ha ha! I understand exactly where you are coming from.

For the past 7 or 8 years, every time I am in the queue line for HM I look at my wife and say...that will be my house one day. I have always wanted to do this, and now I have the opportunity.

That is so cool. My partner and I jokingly said (when we thought about building) that we should theme it after the Haunted Mansion (maybe even the one from DL) and see how many people get the "joke".
Can't wait to see pictures. I may have to take a trip to get my own picture infront of the "Mansion".

Just curious, what part of the country do you live in? Around here the Planning and Zoning commissions would give us grief about building something like that.

And good luck! I'd love to read updates as it progresses.
