Hey, just got the soundtrack on tuesday from Best Buy, which is where you should get it if you want it, cause it has a bonus track, Phil Collins performance of Great Spirits.
Here's a little review:
Phil really did an awesome job again. The mood is much different from Tarzan, you can hear this music and understand that it is more about a proud group of native americans and nature and such, not about a crazy guy living by himself in the jungle. The single "Look Through My Eyes" is this movie's "You'll be in My Heart," but from there the two soundtracks become very different. "Great Spirits" is an awesome song and is performed with incredible energy and excitement by Tina Turner. She was an excellent choice to sing the opening track. Phil's performance on "No Way Out" is also incredible. This man knows how to write songs that connect with you and perfectly convey emotion. "Welcome" as sung by both the Blind Boys of Alabama and Phil Collins and "On My Way" are two great fun songs. "Transformation" as performed by the Bulgarian Women's choir is a powerful stirring song in which they took Phil's original lyrics for the song (which you can hear on another track, which is great) and they translated the lyrics into Inuit, I believe. Hearing all this music you can just imagine what will happen onscreen at these moments. Finally, Phil and Mark Mancina seem to have done a wonderful job with the score, even though we only get three tracks of it.
Anyway, now I'll get to my question. Could anyone tell me how the Academy Awards work? Will only "Look Through My Eyes" be nominated for best song, or could they also nominate "No Way Out" or "Great Spirits" especially since it is sung by a different performer. I was just wondering, because all of these songs are so great and I was trying to figure out if Phil Collins will have any competition for another Oscar. I'm thinking no.
