"good hotel" is quite vague.

I am going to guess that your children's excitement about Yacht & Beach is due to the pool.

Unfortunately, if that is the pool they are fixated on, you must stay at Y&B, because you cannot pool hop.

Also unfortunately, Y&B are the 3rd most expensive hotels on property (behind Polynesian and Grand Floridian).

Many people like the pool at Coronado Springs. There is a slide with a "spitting" jaguar and a dinosaur dig by the pool.

The pools at the other moderates are well-themed also.

The pools at the value resorts are well-themed and bright, but they don't have slides.

Are you planning on doing the parks dawn to midnight? If so, then you might want to consider a moderate or value resort. There is a HUGE price difference.
in regular season:
Moderates -- $144
Y&B -- $329 (that's more than double!)

You might be able to deal with a less fancy pool and do a water park day, which is included if you have the Ultimate Park Hoppers (what used to be known by their more descriptive term, Length of Stay Passes).

If you have more specific questions about hotel food offerings, transportation, room size, etc., just ask.

I agree

I agree with Yellow Shoes. If you are going to be in the parks most of the time, stay at a lower price resort. We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge (moderate) and Coronado Springs (affordable) (on the trips we paid for). I felt the accomodations at Coronado Springs were much better value for the size than Wilderness Lodge. I felt the rooms were a little bigger and the staff much nicer.

If you plan on staying at a resort with a great pool, I could even suggest Old Key West. We stayed there last summer and the pools were wonderful. They have a nice variety.

Hey!

I always go with Virgin as if you book on line you can get 10% off the packages, they do nice extras like 2 free refillable mugs, family photo etc if you go to the All Stars. The moderate resorts are lovely, i've stayed at Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach and loved both. Try www.virginholidays.co.uk

My last trip cost about £4000!!!!! But that was flying in Premium Economy during the Oct half term.
If you plan to go November/December that will cut your cost.

Hope this helps!!

I'm a complete bubblehead about such things, but isn't the pound/dollar exchange rate way in your favor?

I keep reading about how expensive it is for Americans to go to Europe this summer.

very much so...

$1.60-1.80 per £1.00 is fairly common.

Not to mention that prices tend to stay at par on some items...

ie- 1 pair of Jeans, here $45... there £45

I've had english guests staying on our properties asking me where they can buy literally anything to take home... clothes and electronics are #1, followed by DVD's, CD's, and video games, and then sporting goods. I've been asked about anything else you can imagine. The most extreme I've seen is a gentleman buying VW parts to take home cause they were cheaper here than in the UK... or even the European Continent, and another gentleman asking where there was a Ford dealership cause he wanted to explort a Ford Thunderbird to England.

I have to own up to that one too! I remember going with my brother to a Honda dealership buying various parts. LOL

My advice would be to forget any UK operator packages. Book a good scheduled flight using www.expedia.co.uk or www.ba.com, then book your room separately. I would suggest using Pam at Kingdom Konsultants, or if you want to handle it totally on your own, go direct to Disney reservations. You should be able to do much MUCH better than the figures you are mentioning.

Please - no text speak! You are not limited to 160 characters on here

My last holiday in April/May cost £350 each, flights and hotel in a good Kissimme location!

I did a bunch of searching on the net and found it via teletext.co.uk.

Its not just those from the UK who ship things home. I worked at a discount bookstore & we had a very good selection of new computer books...60% off the cover price.

We would ship all over, The UK, Germany, Spain and Japan to name a few. (they also had a website)
I once questionerd a guy from London & he told me that even with shipping charges he saved a bundle. When people heard we were going out of business we began shipping books all over...sometimes to 50 - 75 addresses a day!

They would also bring old clothes on the trip, buy all new & throw the old ones away. Gotta love those outlet centers.

The other option, if you don't mind it not being a "Disney" resort, would be to stay at one of the hotels on International Drive near Downtown Disney. If you go with that option, may I recommend The Grosvenor which is only a five minute walk to DTD and if you get a "Tower Room - Disney View" you have the option of watching Illuminations from your hotel room and then seeing the fireworks at Pleasure Island a couple of hours later right outside your window. I know I got an e-mail from them saying that they have special rates available I think it's if you book before the end of the month and are travelling after June 30. If you PM me your e-mail address I can forward it to you if you are interested in looking into that. They are owned by a British company so there's a big Sherlock Holmes theme and a replica of Holmes' study in the middle of the restaurant there.

i hope you mean Hotel Plaza Blvd...

International Drive runs from the Belz Factory Outlets all the way down to the Caribe Royale...

but it doesn't go on WDW property. It goes near it as you head south, but not WDW property

That's the one. Sorry, make that good sometimes. It's the one that runs from Crossroads all the way down to DTD and has seven or eight independently owned hotels on it. (Doubletree, Hilton, etc.)

Edit: I double-checked with a friend of mine down there. Yep, it was Hotel Plaza Blvd that I had meant to say. My bad.
