Breaking news! For all of you locals, go out and see Disneyland's Believe...There's Magic in the Stars show this weekend, as it is the FINAL WEEKEND it will be performed...EVER. Official from Disney and now on the events calendar, a new firework show will premier on June 4 for the summer season, entitled Disney's Imagine...A Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks (a very suspicious name). Stay tuned for further details!

And now...further details lol. This show is, indeed, Fantasy in the Sky. It seems Anaheim has been complaining a lot about the smoke and noise from the ultra-popular Believe... and demanded that Disney either decrease the amount of smoke and noise or remove fireworks. So, Disney will be bringing the beloved Fantasy in the Sky fireworks under a slightly different name, Disney's Imagine...A Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks, this summer. Once again, therefore, this is the final weekend ever for Believe...There's Magic in the Stars.

As an aside, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: PLAY IT! returns to daily operation on June 11.

You usually have very good information, so I am not doubting you. But how sure are you on the reason. We have had this show for something like 5 years now. Why all of a sudden, now that they have changed to an air launch system, they are 'giving-in' to neighbor complaints? Just doesn't make sense.

The reason I heard, that seems so much more plausible, is that the Castle is going under rehab and the current show uses lots of Castle launches/effects. They are changing the show to not use the Castle during rehab.

From your sources, can you gather which it the true reason? Not that it matters much I guess - time to get my last videos shot. :)

As I understand it, this I NOT the exact same as the old Fantasy in the Sky, but a new show, done by the same guy who did Believe and Wishes.

Then again, NO ONE really seems to know what's going on outside of rumor - as of yesterday, City Hall CMs had no clue what I was talking about when I asked about a new show. So I'm gonna wait and see what we get...

Okay, I just called and talked to Guest Relations about it, and was told that it is indeed a NEW show, not just the old FitS.

The name of the show is Disney's Imagine: A Fantasy in the Sky...if they are calling it Fantasy in the Sky, it makes sense to me that it should be VERY similar to the old Fantasy in the Sky, with maybe a couple additions. I was thinking Disneyland will bill it as the "return of a classic". Perhaps what it is this year is that Believe hasn't been presented with any real frequency for over 6 months (I don't remember when they stopped showing it, but it was before Believe...In Holiday Magic returned), and Anaheim has said "If you could go 6 months without showing it, do you really need to have it shown nightly again this summer, especially after showing Fantasmic! twice a night as well?" It may be a mix of reasons, in fact, because they are rehabbing the Castle this summer. But, I look at it this way--it's the summer. It is not really a prime time to be having scaffolding covering one of the most beloved buildings in the world, and I am sure they could do this work in the fall and next spring and have it ready for Disney's Golden Celebration. It seems to me that perhaps Anaheim told them awhile back that they would not be able to show Believe every night of the summer anymore, and Disney decided to make the best of this time and rehab the Castle, while frantically trying to put together a show. It takes months and months to create a new show, and I would have thought if it were going to be anything really impressive, they would have started telling guests about it weeks ago. The quietness with which they are introducing this new show would tend to argue that it is nothing incredible. I wonder how this will affect the layout of Remember...Dreams Come True. They need to find a way to decrease the smoke in those fireworks...

Oh, I didn't say it was going to be TOO different than FitS - rumor says it won't - but at least it's not the same. I was told when I called that there are new shells and a new soundtrack, at least.

Well, that's why the whole air cannon system was just built in the first place - to reduce the smoke. As far as I'm concerned, local residents can shove it - DL was there first, they knew what they were getting into. Unfortunately, DL doesn't seem to see it the same way.

As far as Believe not running all year this year, I figured it was because they had Fantasmic running year round - why have two big night shows going when you don't have big crowds? I believe Fantasmic is also cheaper, but I can't recall offhand. The last showing of Believe last year was Labor Day weekend, and then Holiday Magic started up in early November.

I agree - castle reehab should have waited until Fall. Besides having less crowds to work around, I think they'd get less complaints, too, seing as it wouldn't be peak season.

I agree that the locals need to stop complaining. If I lived that close to the Magic and could see Believe from my doorstep every night at 9:25 pm, I would be jumping for joy. Disneyland made Anaheim what it is today, but we must remember that Disneyland does not have its own government like Walt Disney World, so they do have to respect the local government's decisions. It sucks, but it is one of the reasons why Walt had Walt Disney World built :)

It's good to hear that this new show is slightly different, but I am sure there will be a lot of complaints as it most-certainly will not measure up to Believe at all.

I have heard too that there was a new bill passed in Sacramento about debris and smoke reduction from fireworks which greatly affects DL. It is so sad that DL has been around almost 50 years and fireworks show have been a regular part of the park for like 40 years, but all of a sudden there are so many restrictions and complaints from stupid locals that the fireworks have to be drastically cut back. Disneyland was there first and people moved in knowing there was a theme park nearby with fireworks. I wish Walt had bought up tons of land around the park.

It is definitely an unfortunate situation...all those ingrate locals...if it weren't for Disneyland, they wouldn't be making any money! And Disneyland treats them so well...$120 for an AP...they should raise it to $400 for anyone within 10 miles ;)

Al Lutz is saying at miceage.com that the changes are because of AQMD which regulates the air pollution in California and also because to fix the problems the new launch system couldn't do all the special effects needed for the show. I'd recommend you read the article at www.miceage.com.

I know he isn't always right, but it does make sense and I have heard others on other boards say similar things. It is sad though because I loved the Believe show and now I never get to see it again.
