haven't heard anything.. but with the economic instability, I would highly doubt they plan on building a park there. Perhaps they're building a factory or just moving their Latin American Offices

Welcome to the boards!

I'm from Brazil, and I haven't heard anything... It's an interesting rumor, though.

Now, here's my opinion: the way I see it, a Disney resort in South America wouldn't work, especially nowadays. Why? The costs to build it and keep it up to Disney standards would be so high I don't even wanna THINK about ticket prices! And also, since 9/11, WDW has been suffering of Guest shortage. A recent article on the paper about tourism (specifically to the US and Florida) had declarations from a WDW representative and a Orlando representative basically saying that Disneyland draws US Guests, DL Paris draws Europeans, DL Tokyo draws Japanese, Chinese and so on, and WDW draws the heavy flow of International Guests, the majority being the Americas. It also said that, in the old days, Brazilians Guests were the third largest crown at the resort, behind Canadians and British, but spent more than the first two combined! Now, with the world economy as it is and WDW already suffering, it seems to me a South Amaerica Disney would be something of a final nail on the lid of the coffin...

Of course, I know squat about Administration and Economy, these are just my personal views on the matter, and I may be wrong! :D

Yes.. thats true.. but i was thinking that right now both Argentinian peso and the brasilian Real are heavily devaluated this wont last for much longer.. its really cheap for Disney to buy land and to build with local contractors.. maybe its just a longer term investment.. buy when is cheap.. and make the money when things get better.. things Will get better.. I remember been in WDW back in 1998 and all you could hear was spanish and portuguese.. there is a market for it for shure.. brasil=170 Millons..
Argentina=40 millons.. Chile=15 millons.. Peru=27 millons.. Paraguay= 5 miilons.. Bolivia=8 millons.. total population of the area = 265 Millons.. lets say that only 5 % could afford it.. (and im being pesimistic.. )13 millons per year.. not bad

I still don't think a potential market of 13 million in an area with very visible and open economic instability and political corruption would allow a Disney theme park to fare well

Doesn’t seem like it would really make all that much sense even if they could get the land and construction cheaply… I could see them maybe extending the Disney Vacation Club by possibly putting in some sort of resort hotel property maybe but a whole theme park doesn’t seem like it would make a whole lot of sense for a multitude of reasons – enough of which have already been mentioned.
