hey guys! really sorry I'm late for the party! We have such a short amount of time to decide which land to do, what do you guys think?

that's what I was thinking, I'd imagine they both already have weenies (the Brachiosaurus bones for Dinoland and the big fat tree in Africa) but I'm thinking they want something more elaborate, kinda like what Everest does for asia.

I'm thinking of a big attraction for each:

Africa:
A giant recreation of Rafiki's Tree with a massive tree house inside that looks slightly reminiscent of the AK lodge and in it would be the HK version of Festival of the Lion King.

Dinoland:
What looks like a giant wooden roller coaster that's made up of Dinosaur bones when you look closer. You see the beams are all held up by Dinosaurs, a massive lift hill is actually a giant stegosaurus and tunnels are actually the spines of a brontosaurus...

what do you guys think?

oh, I was confused by the opening introduction. I was too in a hurry that I didn't see Rafiki smack him the head ^_^

ok back to the drawing boards then.

The Tree House could still work with a creative re-telling of "The Lion King" told through sets and dioramas, sort of like the Sleeping Beauty Walk-through in Paris vut with African tapestries adn cave paintings. It doesn't even have to be TLK, it could be the history of Africa itself, starting with cave paintings at the bottom of the mountain with a climax on top of the tree where a veranda would have us overlooking the savannahs of the Kilimanjaro Safaris.

For Dinoland we could have a massive bone recreation of a Tyranousaurs Rex and a Brachiosaurus who we could name Chester and Hester, the most complete fossil finds in Dinoland, they could sit on top of a little hut that has a little adventure shop in it where the founder of Dino-Land lives.

Ya that tree house idea is awesome especially if it is overlooking the safari or maybe even the pangani trail. If you do TLK your could have a rafiki AA who is in the different rooms kinda like a guide for you.

Okay, i guess we're doing Africa and the treehouse idea seems to be a big hit, we're gonna need to brainstorm the following:

a) scenes for the walk-through. We need good storytellers here and we need to figure out the right amount of scenes and what scenes they will be. It's still up in the air if it's going to be TLK or the history of Africa in general (I was thinking Africa and its relationship to animals)

b) the over-all look of the tree. What is the tree going to look like? I'm willing to provide drawings for our final presentation but we all have to come up with a striking enough, iconic enough tree that would be distinctly different from the Tree of Life.

keep in mind that we have to keep things consistent with the area and Animal kingdom in general. if we choose Lion King, would it conflict too much with the show just a land over? or if we choose Africa's history, how relevant would it be to the rest of DAK?

I agree that Lion King deserves a bigger spot in Animal Kingdom, and I love the treehouse idea. I'm trying to think just the main scenes of the movie we could recreate:
-Presentation of Simba (Circle of Life plays)
-Mufasa tells Simba about the Circle of Life (Music from this scene plays)
-Simba and Kala go to the Elephant Graveyard (Music from this scene plays)
-Scar persuades the hyenas (Be Prepared plays)
-Wildebeest Stampede (Music from this scene plays)
-Pumbaa and Timon adopt Simba (Hakuna Matata plays)
-Simba meets Nala again (Can you Feel the Love Tonight plays)
-Simba returns to Pridelands (Music from this scene plays)
-Simba fights Scar (Music from this scene plays)
-Simba takes control of Pridelands (Circle of Life plays)
-Rafiki presents Simba and Nala's Cub (Circle of Life Plays)

i'm not entirely sure about The Lion King as the walkthrough though considering Festival of the Lion King is already somewhere in the park. That and it's a tree house which hints at the involvement of man in some way which encroaches on the African fable feeling of the story.

As for the significance of the tree house itself, I think its story is that it is this huge monument that has been in Harambe for centuries and has been pretty much the home of the tribes that lived there. the tree itself could be called "Harambe" and it has served as a beacon for lost peoples. This would explain all the cave paintings and evolving displays within as tribe after tribe would come and camp there and add their own piece of history into the tree.

The design of the house on the tree itself could be an amalgamation of several african cultures. from the northern more moroccan features to east african, like Kenya, to the more tropical southern part like Gabon or South Africa. The tree house on top of the tree should be very colorful, reminiscent of say, the giant mask displays in AK lodge.

circusole, I love the idea of the mangrove tree as the base where people would go into the roots. Sure it's like the Tree of Life but if we put the tree on top of a big rock and have the roots amongst the rocks that would lead to this cave within, I think it would look different enough.

oh and yeah, we still need a name ^_^
