Or the parents should of sat the child on the inside of the boat not the side so he wouldn't be tempted to hold the side for a grip. The parents weren't paying attention to this child and in this case the child got injured. Parent's fault.

I agree. If the kid is on the outside of the boat, the parents should be watching them to make sure they didn't have their hands out when the boat is pulling up to the dock. Common sense.

I grew up around boats and my parents always watched me whenever we were docking.

But I do feel sorry for the Kid, I hope it doesn't effect him having this happen in the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Saw this one over on MiceChat earlier... they say keep your hands and arms inside the boat for a reason. :brick: I wouldn't necessarily say it's the parents fault because I know that kids don't always obey... Still, I do wonder why they didn't make sure he kept his arms in the boat.

For anyone who hasn't seen the Storybookland Canal Boats, EVERYONE is seated around the outer perimeter of the boat. Basically, the seat go around the outside edge of the boat, with the middle of the boat for standing while entering or exiting hte boat only. There is no rail along the edge of the boat either.

While the parents should have seen their little guy's hands on the edge of the railing, I don't totally blame them, small fingers are an easy thing to overlook.

I definitely don't blame the kid, as he was only four, so if there is anyone to blame, it's the parents. It was likely an accident where they were simply not paying attention, but I would say docking is the one time they should have been paying attention. It's an unfortunate accident, likely no one's fault.

Well consider it wrong place at wrong time for the kid's thumb. I also think what Disney has done to prevent this from happening again is goo,d I just hope the kid's thumb is ok. (it wasn't actually cut off, it got broken).

I am though surprised that this hasn't seemed to happen before in this ride's 50 year history.

little of both. He broke a finger and severed the tip of his thumb off.

That reminds me. This one time, my uncle was placing steps in his house and he accidently chopped off the top of his middle finger. Now his middle finger is as long as his index finger.
